Hey all

This is the opening 20 of something I wrote 40 pages of pre-pandemic. Like most pre-pandemic things, I have forgotten mostly where I intended the plot to go with this, but I like it a lot. I assume it's a romance-drama-queer thing, because of the framing device, but I don't know what the central conflict was supposed to be aside from "they're gay in the 1920s".

I also don't know why I made the framing story be set in 2005.

Anyway, is this actually promising or am I simply moved by the fact that I forgot most of this? I'm not sure I like the framing device with Sylvia and the older John.

The premise (appears to be) about an 18 year old in 1929 Australia who falls in love with his family's Aboriginal farm hand. He also has a terribly abusive father.
