SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  A 'Quickie' Challenge  /  Scripts of the Thanksgiving Quickie Challenge
Posted by: Don, November 19th, 2022, 12:39pm
Theme:

• An uninvited guest shows up (to Thanksgiving, Black Friday or Cyber Monday)  — the guest doesn’t need to be human and, hell, doesn’t even need to be alive. However, the guest must reveal something that will impact the lives of the people he/she/it touches for the worst, or the better.

• Oh yeah, and one of your characters must be blind.

Santuario by Anonima - An immigrant family seeks out a priest known for providing sanctuary (santuario). 10 pages  Short, Drama

Don't Look by A Person, Place, Or Thing - A family's thanksgiving dinner is interrupted when they're visited by a godly being. 7 pages  Short, Horror

The Giving by Call Me Alfred - A father and his daughter share Thanksgiving with several guests. Some invited. Some not.  Short, Horror

Daddy's Apology by Have "no" Mercy - A father meets his daughter for the very first time and he has a lot to make amends for. 7 pages  Short, Drama

A Very Different Thanksgiving by Me (not 'me') - They have Thanksgiving in some suprising places.  Short, Drama

Blind as a Bat by Brother Grimm - They say love is blind. So does everyone else in the room.  Short, Comedy

Heedless by Can't say, it's OWC - A man's Thanksgiving night is disturbed when an unexpected visitor arrives seeking some answers.  Short, Drama

The Turkey Takeover by Freda Gobbler - Inspired by actual events: When the actual CBS TV Boston Nightly News story focuses on rampaging Wild Turkeys that take over the small town of Woburn, one local man takes a stand that divides the community, even the country. 10 pages  Short, Comedy

Kip and Whip’s Awesome Dimensional Ctrl/Shift by Bill S, Preston ESQ - Two frugal teens, on the verge of becoming a social stigma, are approached by a traveling tech-support agent that will change their lives forever.  Short, Sci Fi

Really great turnout on the heels of the Halloween OWC.
Thanks Steve & Don!

Will get to reading a little later on.

Yeah, I was happy. Thought there was only eight. Thanks!

Well, that’s all read and commented. Some unusual ideology on what Thanksgiving means. Lot of dark disturbing images to take in, but alas, writing is taking something that is and making it something it isn’t.

9 Thanksgiving scripts and 1 Black Friday, but no Cyber Monday’s… guess that one hasn’t caught on yet, lol. Great job to those who entered, and of course Steve and Don for this curious challenge, best of luck to all.

Not a lot of people reviewing. Is everybody busy until later?

I'm planning to tonight

I’ll go at it this week. I think the weekend can be tough for some.

Yep, I'm sure people will come to the party when they're free. There's usually just a flurry when they first drop. :)

I’ve been held hostage at the hospital all weekend (working, not sick!). I’ll get some reviews up ASAP  :)

That stood out to me, too. Usually by now there's quite a few more reviews.

I'll be hitting hard today and tomorrow also. Sounds like there'll be others doing the same.

The scripts are surprisingly good. I'm enjoying the challenge very much.

All done reading and reviewing. Phew. I was afraid I wasn’t gonna make it, and that would have looked really bad. Anyway, just gotta submit my ballot and that’s that.

Thanks to all who entered AND those who didn’t and read anyway! Love to see that. —Steve

When do votes have to be in?

OK, all done. No horse in this race... so congrats to all you entered - great job. Not a bad one in the bunch. I’m gonna go hide now, because I’m sure someone is going to say that I’m totally wrong.  ;D
