Here's a short horror film we shot last fall that I just put online, if anyone wants to check it out. We did pretty good with it, picked up some nice awards, made a few cool festivals. I tried to make a found footage hybrid. I had never tried FF before. Never even attempted to write one. I love the effect of it, I just loathe all the unimportant garbage that usually precedes the good stuff in these films.

Anyway, I think it's the best atmosphere I've ever created as a director - up until it switches to FF. Then I wasn't really sure how to use the nightvision camera work to its best effect. It ends up being more jump scares than anything creepy. You live and you learn.

Label warning: This thing is epically long for a short film at 26 minutes. It's my 1/3rd of a feature attempt.

Wow, James, this was seriously next level. Everything about it was top notch. I definitely think you are ready for a feature. FF was my favourite sub genre for the longest time and I think you nailed it. The hybrid works very well and while you downplay your FF skills I think you pulled it off flawlessly. I personally think this is your best yet.

Congrats!

Great job!

The ff part was just as good as the last part of Blair Witch!

Hats off to you... again.  8)

Also want to say that you do a really nice job with coming up with interesting locations.

Thanks, Warren. My confidence while shooting this was high, but after we only made about 30 percent of the festivals I entered , my confidence severely dwindled. Especially after I got some feedback from a rejection that the viewers were "confused". Your comments made me feel better about it.

And I'm enjoying the updates on your upcoming film. You guys are being meticulous in your approach to this thing. It will pay dividends in the end.

Thanks Pia. The Treatment plant was really the inspiration for the story. That word just got stuck in my head. It was absolutely nasty in there, though. It's been condemned for over a decade. The roof leaks, it reeks of mold and mildew. Haley, our lead actress, was sick for a week after the shoot. It really made me swear off shooting in condemned buildings and don't even get me started with how dangerous that place was.
