Really nice writing here. Very crisp, clean, and a breeze to read, too.

Great job!

My only issue (for want of a better word) would be for it to be a little clearer at the end, as it's not clear if those who come a knocking, are melevalant or friendly.

Although I guess you perhaps want it more ambiguous to play on the horror angle, so I can understand your motivation for having it as it is.

Would I be correct in thinking that both Beth and Kate are already dead, and they just haven't accepted it yet? Kind of like The Others type of thing?
