SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Review My Logline  /  Loglines For My Favorite Movies

As I've said, I love loglines.  I did these for my favorite movies from my teen years.  See if you can name the movies:

When a teenager travels to the past to escape death in the present, he finds himself playing matchmaker for his own parents to save himself yet again in the future.

When a gung-ho EPA inspector shuts down their ecto-containment system, a team of paranormal eliminators is forced to save the Earth from an otherworldly demon.

A swashbuckling archaeologist battles earthly and supernatural forces to prevent the most powerful religious icon in history from falling into the hands of the Nazis.

When a farm boy from a small planet loses his family, he teams up with a reclusive mystic and they join an interstellar rebel alliance to fight the evil forces responsible for his loss.

I’m just going to make some guesses - not completely sure about any of them.
1. Back to the Future
2. Ghost Busters
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
4. Superman

This is a fun quiz!  I’ve mentioned movie loglines previously that were so terse that they give no hint as to the depth or quality of the movie.

All I will say is that 3 of 4 are right.  I won't say which three.  Any more contestants?

Thank you for playing!

I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I think that's the last one.  :)

Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!  We have all four identified.  Now, keep in mind that loglines are not meant to identify movies you've already seen, they are meant for movies you haven't seen.  With that in mind, what do you think of my logline attempts?  Any ideas for improvements are welcome.

Quickfire bonus round:

When the typesetter for a small town newspaper spends the night in a murder house to get his big break as a reporter, he's forced to overcome his innate cowardice to solve the town's darkest mystery.

All fairness hint, these are both well before my teen years...

For extra bonus fun:

When a visiting alien race tires of being fired upon by Earth forces, they formulate a plan to conquer the planet by creating an army of remote control human zombies.

The Ghost & Mr Chicken?
The other one has me stumped.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is correct.  I found if you select all the text and right-click search, it will be the top hit.

Select and search on the 2nd one doesn't work.  The only hint I will give is, 'I' wrote it.

;D :P :oThis movie made the lead actor always have a soft spot in my heart forever.

A coverup and witchhunt occur after a politician accidentally kills his mistress.

You beat me to it Steven.
Love that movie, if it's the one Pia is referring to.

Not trying to be pushy, but I really want to see if anyone can guess the movie I wrote this for:

When a visiting alien race tires of being fired upon by Earth forces, they formulate a plan to conquer the planet by creating an army of remote control human zombies.

Nope, can't get it.
Not a big Zombie fan going back though.

It isn't a zombie movie.  It isn't post-apocalyptic.  I'll give it too you in a quote from the movie:

"...deals with the resurrection of the dead. Long distance electrodes shot into the pineal and pituitary gland of the recently dead."

Nope. And I even gave Hubby your clue, and he's good. Another clue please...

I could Google it but where would be the fun in that?  :D

I was going to say, "Don't Google it", but I didn't want to sound like my dad.    :)

New Clue: It was Bela Lugosi's last movie.

Yes!  That was my first hint: "The only hint I will give is, 'I' wrote it." - Meaning Me, as in my avatar.   ;D
