It was a thriller about child abduction with a metaphysical touch. Very well written. It goes along with his channel that is blowing up ...he can barely keep up with it right now...really rooting for him! I'm going to be there for his acceptance speech...packing my bags... and crossing fingers AND toes!

I'll fill you all in because it's interesting and it just shows you that sometimes the path to your dreams might be a different one than you thought.

So, Kevin has been writing screenplays for a long time. He was also QF at Nichols with the very first feature he ever wrote! Then it went on like for most of us, trying and trying, but seemingly unable to get traction. He decided to try his hand at prose. He studied hard and become very good at it, but just like so many other novelists out there, it's hard to gain any traction. One thing lead to another and he started a YT channel where he hired amateur voice actors to read his short stories. The channel wasn't an overnight success or anything, but did well enough to encourage him to go on. Eventually these short stories intend for a YA audience got darker and became more adult. Ghosts, supernatural stuff and eventually even serial killers. The audience grew slowly, but it was growing. Thenthe channel started to shift again into True Crime territory and people seemed to like that, so he continued. Things moved along and he met up with a writer who had written a book on one particular true crime. They started to collaborate. This guy happened to know a woman who had directed a documentary for HBO. She wom an Emmy! This was in the 90s though, but still. Then, one day not long ago, Netflix!!!!!! came knocking and said they were interested in turning this one true crime into a series!!! Do I have your attention mow? :D They said they would like to see a short trailer for the series and wondered if they could put that together. In like 10 days!!! So, the three of them scrambled and I think they did it. Not sure where things stand at the moment, but I think it's very exciting and shows that we shouldn't be afraid to go down different paths, stay diligent, and never give up.  8)

And, correct me if I'm wrong Pia (timing wise) but Kevin managed to do this all the while battling serious illness.

I went searching for the link to Kev's YouTube channel - couldn't find it. It was up here cause we talked about it on the boards not that long ago, but searching latest posts didn't work. So do you know it?

P.S. Thanks for all the stuff I didn't know.

I'm with Libby, Pia, thanks for all the stuff we didn't know. :)

Definitely an important lesson.

Never give up...even though Mark Twain said..."after five years if you are a failure at something it's probably time to move on"...fvck Twain. :)_ghostie gal

Or to quote famous cellist Pablo Casals when asked why he continued to practice at age 90,
“Because I think Im making progress”.  :D

Haha! Love it, Gurls.

Congrats, Kevin!

This is all an interesting story.

Does anyone know the name of the YouTube channel? I'd love to check out some of his content.

I've been busy lately and so have they, so I haven't kept up and could be wrong, but I think he has almost 5K subscribers to his channel. It's not huge in other words. I think what attracted Netflix was the subject matter. One of the true crimes especially. Can't remember what it was called, but it had to do with some huge coverup in Massachusetts somewhere involving police, government officials, and so on.

Thanks for the link, Pia. 4.6K subscribers is nothing to sneeze at. He’s got twice what I have. Good for him. I’ll check out the content soon. Looks interesting.

This thread was super motivating and inspiring to read about Kevin. Pia, your history on his current success was a ride to read!

I'm currently attempting to write a novel, and I've had AI voices read my story back to me so I can see how it sounds when read aloud. The app is called NaturalReader, and of course while it is a subscription-based app, the voices sound quite real and there are different voices (both male and female). It's great to listen to my story read by these voices (albeit still a little robotic-sounding) because I can listen to see what sounds good, and what doesn't. I digress, it is a fantastic idea to get amateur voice actors to read aloud your story to post to YouTube. I wanna do the same for mine eventually...

Congrats to Kevin. I don't know if I've read any of his screenplays but it sounds like he knows what he's doing, even if it takes decades!

Stay Spooked!

Sean
