Hey all,

So I had a completed script (Final Draft) on my flash drive and never saved it anywhere on my laptop. Now I’ve lost the flash drive.

Question— is this script anywhere on my laptop somewhere?

Thanks

Steve, it depends on how your laptop processes data.  Sometimes you might be able to find things here:

C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp

if you're using a Windows based laptop.

On a Mac, temporary files are stored in a specific folder. To locate it, you first have to quit all active apps. Then, from the Finder, select Go > Go to Folder and type in the following path: ~/Library/Caches/ . In the window that opens, you'll see all temporary files.

Maybe you can find it in one of those places.

What Gary said, but if on a PC you may have to select 'View' in the file folder and check 'Hidden Items' to see the 'AppData' Folder... by default it's unchecked and within a folder called 'Default'.

Final Draft saves temporary files in a folder. In FD Tools menu click Options, the backup folder is at the bottom, check if it's been saved in there.

And... As my Mum was fond of saying - (re the flash drive) where did you see it last?   ;D Sorry, not funny. Hope you find it!

Libby nailed it!

I just checked the backup folder for my Final Draft and everything's in there going months back, nice to know, thanks!

Good advice, all. I couldn’t find it initially, but I did eventually find the flash drive. My wife found it in the dryer, which means it got washed. I plugged it back in, and everything, miraculously, was still there. Amazing. Some dude on Twitter said it was the best advert for Sans Disk he’d ever read!

Thanks. So today I get up early to do some writing before work and I forget to bring my laptop plug. It’s a never ending battle.
