SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  Slayfest the Podcast and Battelborg the Story

Hey everyone,

Sorry, I've been absent for a while. Life has been hectic and I've been focusing on writing prose for this past year mostly. I do have a couple of updates I'd like to share.

The short screenplay Slayfest which won Austin last year and started life as a OWC here called 'The Body' has been turned into a podcast by a US company. It is like theatre, in that a narrator describes the action while actors deliver the lines. It's all mixed with Radio Drama style effects and music and sounds great! I'm really pleased with the outcome.

The other bit of shameless promotion I'd like to mention is I had a short story published yesterday in quite a prominent anthology.  My sci-fi meets fantasy story Battelborg features in SNAFU: Punk'd https://www.amazon.co.uk/SNAFU-Punkd-James-Moore-ebook/dp/B0C9XH33J1. That's the link to the UK Kindle edition but it's available in all regions and in paperback.

The SNAFU books mix horror with sci-fi and fantasy, but the emphasis is on military-style action and each SNAFU book follows a different theme. The theme for this edition is Cyberpunk.

The series has become quite famous as several of their stories have been adapted into episodes of the Netflix show Blood, Death & Robots. Because of this, each anthology gets submissions from well-known award-winning authors from all over the world, so I am blown away that a story of mine has been included in this.

Part of the publishing contract included a clause which gives Netflix first adaptation rights. It is a long shot, of course, but I am excited.

Battleborg tells the tale of a military-grade cyborg who takes a final stand against mythical beings who have taken over Earth.

Anyway, I'll stop pestering you all now. I'm just a bit giddy. It's always a thrill to get something published/produced.

Hey Mark, congratulations! That's awesome. I joined your FB group since I've tried to move into prose myself since I'm much more of a reader than a watcher of movies. So far, Grammarly tells me I write at a fifth-grade level, so I have a long way to go. ;D I will check out your book as soon as I quit typing this. Good luck, and keep us posted.  8)

For those that do not live in the UK, it might be easier to just go to your amazon page and search for the name of the book. I had to go through a bunch of security checks before I could buy...

Congrats, Mark!

I actually know Geoff Brown through the Stephen King community. A few weeks a go he started announcing the SNAFU authors and I saw your bio... I was like I know that guy! :) Small world.
