Just to throw it out there has anyone thought about creating a discord for simplyscripts? A place we could have a writers room in some respect.

Sam, I think this idea has been floated before.

I'd be all for it.
That said, I have no idea how easy or difficult or practical it is to set up.
And, it's up to the boss, Don.

I completely understand, and it's very easy, user friendly to set up.

It's a question of who will monitor it.

I set one up a bit ago - https://discord.gg/Xa8uJh6JBB

but haven't done anything with it.

Questions for you Don:

What's involved in monitoring it?
I have no problem doing it if it's moderating. I'm sure someone else would join me to cover time-zones - Anthony, maybe or someone else?

Would it appear on this site or be linked from?

P.S. I didn't suggest my fellow Mod, cause I know she's a bit busy at the moment.

Joining Servers:

Usually, to join a server in Discord, admins can send a "server link" that allows people to join via a URL. If your server is public, then anyone can send a server link for people to join.
If you also have "friends" on Discord, you can directly invite them to a server.

I know of Discord but not used it, and like Libby I'd be happy to monitor/help if needed...

If trustworthy enough, I’m alsohappy to keep an eye on it as a mod if that’s a thing. I don’t have time to be on there heaps but can check in fairly regularly.

I think a discord chat could be good for people to ask quick minor questions that don’t need a whole thread.

join the server with this link:

EDIT: You'll just have to download the discord software first (free)

Is it linked to SS, and did Don approve it?

The Discord is separate.  It's another type of discussion board with more functionality.  I don't know if SimplyScripts need another discussion forum.

Folks are welcome to go and play around in it.

It's more of a real time functionality. We could use the voice channel to brainstorm, provide feedback in real time.

I'd rather promote what's going on here, not take discussion elsewhere. We used to have endless discussions and debates here on SS and we just need to revamp that.

Maybe we could do with a new thread: 'Talking Film, Scripts, What you're Writing, Reading, Watching, Industry News & Spec Options etc.

The General thread at the moment stipulates anything outside of screenwriting.

That said, Sam, post any question or topic you want - at the moment probably in the Things You are Looking For thread, or in Questions.

Oh, and I hope you get involved in the OWC challenge which has just dropped. Lots of fun, get to know people etc. :)

I can see it as a higher-speed channel for mods to put their heads together, but not a replacement for the main discussion board.

Pro: Push notifications. Still works if SS is down for some reason.
Con: Discord is a bigger hacking target. Sucking any discussion away from SS is perhaps ill-advised.
