Has anyone had any experience with this contest? Are they legit? They invited me and cited an honorable mention for one of my scripts in a film festival. It made me a little suspicous.

I guess it depends on your definition of 'legit'.

They seem to be one of those digital only awards sites, that seem to issue awards in the same categories 3 or 4 times per year.

You don't seem to be able to enter via the site directly, only via Filmfreeway on a page that is riddled with typos.

E.g. 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐐 𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐍𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 and $𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐒 - that one is repeated at least twice on the page and I presume they mean prizes not prices.

And the amount of categories you can enter is bewildering, each entry at a price of course.

They also have a page on their website where you can submit details of your script in the slim-to-none chance that a producer might stumble across it.

There's red flags aplenty I'm afraid!

But, if you want to say 'I won a screenplay award' then I'd say this may give you a fair chance of doing so, but it will not get you any legitimate exposure with legitimate producers or the industry in general.

All imho of course.

Thanks. I decided not to enter it myself when I took a closer look at their email. It offers a 100% free addmission code (just for me, apparently) but further down says it applies to only the first few applicants and becomes a 30% off promotion for everyone else. Too suspicous for me.

"New York Script Awards is an IMDB-qualifying festival..."

Haha, just when you thought you'd seen it all with these competitions. Literally almost anything can be added to IMDb, from a one-minute short you shoot with your kids on your iPhone to a feature screenplay in development.

I remember when one of their judges, Ronika Merl, was making the rounds a few years ago with her placements in the Nicholl and Austin, but I'm not sure what's happened after that.

This probably doesn't rise to the level of an all-out scam, but it's probably as useless as a majority of these other screenplay contests.

P.s. I'm not sure why the quotes I tried to paste in didn't work properly!

Hello,

They are not on moviebytes.com. Otherwise, you could check what screenwriters say about it.

or is it New York International Screenplay Awards? That one is there.

Today I received another "discounted" invitation to submit to a contest I've never heard of (Prague Script Awards). It mentions the same script as the New York Script Awards (one of three that earned Honorable Mention at a recent film festival).

That settles the matter for me. Probably not an out-and-scam, but probably worthless as far as I am concerned.
