Music fans should check out: http://www.pandora.com. There is a lot of silly talk on the site about "the music genome project" -- whatever the he ll that is supposed to be -- but the concept itself is very cool. You pick an artist you enjoy -- or even a specific song -- and it plays music from that band and music similar to it. Then, you just minimize the window and let it go. It plays deep cuts, too -- not just the hits -- and I have discovered several new artists through this site. If you like a song, click "like this" and it works the artist into the rotation. If you dislike a song, click "don't like this", and it will never plays that song again -- though you might get other songs by the same artist. So it kind of "learns" what you like, and after a while -- with some guidance to the program -- you will have created a pretty fine "station" for yourself. And you can have more than one "station" -- lately I have been picking bands that suit the mood of what I am writing and I have found it a useful tool. It is free, but if memory serves, you do have to register -- but I have not noticed any uptick in spam and I started using it about a month ago. Just passing it on. A very cool site to discover new music and old favorites you might have forgotten. |
