Or maybe dig a little deeper and try to write about texting and internet lingo. Maybe write about how words are getting smaller and smaller because of society's literal interpretations of the sounds they make. (ex. UR = you are, C = see, etc.)

How many words/pages does it have to be?

Just make sure when you write your essay, avoid contractions (ex. write out "do not" as opposed to "don't").

He's basically saying you are what you eat but he's expanding it into the consumer culture.  So, it could even include things like you are what you buy and wear.

The fact that he used the texting UR and U probably indicates that he is pointing this at the SMS culture and the changes they have made in spelling out of button pressing laziness.  So even the changes mobile phones have made to culture could be approached as an extremely valid consumer item for the topic of this essay.

But I would say find something you buy and look at how that affects your life.  How do your friends react to it?  Did you buy it to fit in, because everyone else has it?  Things like that would be appropriate.
