Writer/Director: Richard Kelly
Staring: Sarah Michelle Gellar - Sean William Scott - Jason Lee - Kevin Smith - Amy Poheler - Tim Blake Nelson Possibly Also Staring: Janeane Garfalo - Ali Larrter
Is this Jason Lee and Kevin Smith the more well known viewaskew guys? That's a good cast, I mean SMG is an okay actress and Sean Scott is funny so yeah
It starts filming in Janruary now and has a new cast:
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Candy a drug-addict-murdering-porn-star Sean William Scott plays Damen, her boyfriend Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Sondra, Candy's porn publicist Leelee Sobieski plays Jaime Kirsten Stewart, play Kammy, Candy's goth 14-year-old sister Grant Rogers plays Roger Jason Lee (unknown) Kevin Smith (unknown) Amy Poheler (unknown) Tim Blake Nelson (unknown)
Richard Kelly, the director, told SCIFI WIRE that Southland Tales with start production this Spring.
The CAST is shaky though. It hasn't been officially revealed yet, and so far officially, we only of 4 who are definitley in it. They are:
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Candy a drug-addict-murdering-porn-star Sean William Scott plays Damen, her boyfriend Jason Lee (unknown) Kevin Smith (unknown)
------------- Maggie Gyllengaal, Leelee Sobieksi, Lalaine, Kirsten Stewart, Grant Rogers and Ali Larter were only rumoured.
It is UNCLEAR about Amy Poheler, Tim Blake Nelson and Janeane Garofalo.
She wont be singing in the movie as she has already offically announced. I think she sang on her TV Series Buffy... or something. I donnow. I never heard her, but it doesn't matter cuz she wont be singing anyways.
She wont be singing She wont be doing nudity But she will be a DRUG-ADDICT-PORNSTAR called Candy
I was looking forward to this as I felt Kelly had a very strong first time film with "Donnie Darko." With "Darko," Kelly showed that he was both a very good writer as well as an able director. However, I felt his follow-up script, Tony Scott's "Domino," was a little weak. I thought the movie itself was decent, all though the "style" of the film drove me up a wall. Of course, that's more Scott's fault than Kelly's, but I stil thought the script was a bit lacking.
Unfortunately, word from Cannes has been almost universally bad even from some of Kelly's biggest supporters when it comes to "Southland Tales." It seems Kelly took a cue from Scott, and over-stylized this thing to death. Not too mention, it is apparently over three hours long in its current state and still doesn't make all that much sense. I can't possibly imagine how a cut version could help.
I would still say I am eagerly anticipating this one based solely on my respect for Kelly. However, it is disheartening to hear when a director buys into his own hype, and starts trying to out-do himself with each new film in some sort of weirdness factor. Still, though, I'm crossing my fingers for this one.
According to indieWIRE, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales will hit theaters on November 9 in partnership with Destination Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group.
A refresher course for those of you that have never heard of this movie.
Quoted Text
Set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles, a city on the brink of chaos, we follow the criss-crossed destinies of Boxer Santaros (Dwayne Johnson), an action film actor stricken with amnesia; Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), ex-porn star in the midst of reconverting; and twin brothers Roland and Ronald Taverner (both played by Seann William Scott), whose destinies - on one evening - become intertwined with that of all mankind.
Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
This movie sounds so twisted and effed up. I'm glad Kelly is doing something different, rather than sticking to a Donnie Darko type of a movie. Been waiting for this one for a while now, glad it's finally on its way.
