In an interview with Djimon Hounsou he's let on that whilst a sequel to Gladiator is still in 'Development Hell', it has not yet been totally abandoned...

Quoted Text
Speaking in New York to promote his latest film "The Island," Hounsou said "definitely the desire is to do a sequel" to "Gladiator."

He acknowledged it would be hard for Crowe to return as Maximus given his dramatic death at the end of the first film, but he said producers were still working on the script and casting decisions.

"They're not happy about what they have for now, so they're still working on it. It's still in development," said Hounsou, adding that he expects to reprise his role as Juba. "I would probably be in the center of it as one of the leads," he said.

As far as I'm concerned, any further Gladiator movie without Crowe would be a bit of a pointless exercise. It was his performance that held the first movie together for me.

Gladiator fans don't forget that an Extended Edition of the 1st movie is set to hit U.S. DVD on 17th August... This new cut supposedly contains 17 minutes of new footage... Details here...

This has been bugging me like nothing else lately.  Not just stupid sequels, but Hollywood's lack of imagination and original ideas so now they're recycling everything.  Now every film is getting a sequel, every old film is getting a remake, and every comic book/video game is getting a big screen adaptation.  The sad thing is, these could all be quality movies, but only a handfull of them actually are!

SEQUELS

Gladiator 2: Russell Crowe died, how the heck are you gonna make a sequel out of this?  Supposedly one idea was that they focus on the kid like 15 years later, but that's just stupid.

Jurassic Park 4: Oh my God!  How many more times are a bunch of idiots going to be stranded on that island?

Men in Black 3: The only reason this is being made is because the second scored well at the box office.

Saw 2: Oh please!  GIVE IT A REST!

Batman vs. Superman/Superman returns: Yeah this has "flop" written all over it.

Fast and the Furious 3: "2 Fast 2 Furious(dur dur)" never should have been made and it ruined the first one, in my opinion.  What's this gonna be?  3 Fast 3 Furious times 3?

The Transporter 2: Who actually saw the first one?

ADAPTATIONS(future and past of video games or books)

Alone in the Dark: Could have been great, but of course, some idiot messed it all up.  How many actually played the ORIGINAL game?

House of the Dead: Once again, not a very popular game and it was directed by the same idiot as above.

Fantastic 4: Ugh, terrible marketing campaign, cruddy cast and it's doing subpar at the box office and with critics(surprise, surprise).  Sure, it scored 55 million it's first week and dipped to 22 million it's second.  Ouch.  Some things are comic books for reasons.

Elektra: What the heck??  This was just to show off Jennifer Garner's body.  I didn't see it, I never will see it, but would someone tell me how she came back to life?  I mean come on.  Lack of imagination on Hollywood once again.  Adaptation?  She was in the frickin' Dare Devil movie and now she gets her own crud.

Transformers
: HAHAHAHAHA!

REMAKES(TV or Film)

Herbie: Wow....just wow...

Dukes of Hazzard: Did I even spell that right?  Yeah this is past its prime and it stars Johnny Knoxville...18 million its first week at most.

Bewitched:  Sigh...

Speed Racer:  This will just be a huge 90 minute joke.

Wallace and Gromit:  I like the shorts, but this isn't gonna be a hit at all.

Now there are, of course, exceptions to all of these.  Anything by Spielberg(yes, I liked War of the Worlds) is acceptable because he's one of the best out there.  Other films that fall into the above categories that actually look decent are "The Simpsons" "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" "King Kong(by proven director Peter Jackson)" "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Bad News Bears(the first to really launch the sports genre of a bad team and a bad coach and they suddenly get it together)"

It's just so annoying to see the lack of imagination in Hollywood now and I'm tired of seeing all this crap in theaters.  Actually, with all the independent features and winter movies, the better movies do outnumber the bad ones as a whole...unfortunately the good ones all come out at once, and that's in December.

But when you see crap like "Gladiator 2"...I mean...gosh!  Why not make Passion of the Christ 2 or WarGames 2, or make an adaptation of Rampage World Tour.  Hollywood needs to get on this site and see some of our work...

Be excellent to each other
