I think this movie will totally take away all of the mystery of Hannibal Lectar! It's sequels left a lot to be desired and I think this one is a pointless waste of time. I say leave it alone... but it look as if it's passed the rumours stage and will get the green light.

I didn't enjoy the original at all, it was lame but for the scenes with Anthony Hopkins in his cage. Hannibal was a bit better and Red Dragon was just okay. I think the only reason they should make this one is if Hopkins comes back and tells his story as Lector through a cell to a fresh new agent.

They need to get his story because he is to be executed... That would be a cool one or maybe if somebody was writing a book on his life. That's what real people do, they profit off of others misfortunes.

Based on the new Hannibal Lecter prequel novel from author Thomas Harris, the film will center on how Hannibal watched his young sister get killed and eaten by hungry soldiers in war-ravaged Lithuania during WWII. The movie takes place at three pivotal moments of Hannibal's life.

Directed by Peter Webber, the thriller stars Gaspard Ulliel and Gong Li. It is currently filming in Prague.

I can't say I'm at all excited about this... Manhunter's my favourite of the series (and Brian Cox the best Lecter) and I think they've gradually gotten worse since then.

Talk about flogging a dead horse...

So, this is a prequel to the original film which is actually the sequel to the first film that isn't as widely known.  However, there was also a sequel to the sequel which makes it a trilogy, an then after that there was a prequel to the sequel of the first film, which is actually the first so it was a prequel to the original.  Now, there's a prequel to the original which is the sequel in the trilogy.

Get it?  Boo.  I hate this idea.  Is it really that hard to come up with another cannibalistic character?

I forgot to add last time, he doesn't wear a mask so how can it be the man behind the mask?

He had a mask on when they were moving him but he didn't actually wear a mask unless the mask is a metaphor for something else.

I'm actually looking forward to this. I generally like going to see sequels, to see for myself if they were pulled off successfully or not. I particularly like adaptations, because I like to see how they differ from the books. I don't know what "Behind The Mask" will be like, but I'll definitely go to see it.

As for the nay-sayers [like me] .. imagine if Macaulay Culkin or even Hayden Christensen had gotten the role   Then we'd have something to talk about.

Hannibal Lecter is coming back. Thomas Harris will be releasing a new book on December 5 called Hannibal Rising and it's going to to examine Hannibal's childhood.

The film will follow in Febuary and will star French actor Gaspard Ulliel.

Hannibal lector as a kid, I think this could be the creepiest one.  There is some of his childhood written in Hannibal.and it was very disturbing, I wonder if they are gonna keep that stuff in the movie.

Yeah, it should be interesting to see if his madness is due to nature or nurture. I pity any school yard bullies who upset him; I'm guessing they would've ended up getting served for lunch in the cafeteria.

I can't wait!

Gonna get my order done tonight from Amazon and when it finally arrives I'm going to lock myself up in my bedroom with a "do not disturb" sign on the door and I'm not coming out until I've read the whole thing.

I'm not sure I like what I'm hearing both about the book and the film. I absolutely love the Hannibal Lecter stories, but from what I'm hearing around this movie and the book, it's a dud. Even with Thomas Harris doing the screenplay.

And what's with the title? Hannibal Rising? Behind the Mask was a much, much better title. Intriguing and mysterious, but this new one just. I don't like it at all. Peter Webber was the wrong choice for director, I feel. They should've stayed with one of the other directors, possibly not Ridley Scott because he missed the mark with Hannibal.

Oh well, the only thing I can say is that we'll have to wait and see. No trailers or posters or anything has been released for the film yet, so we'll just hold onto our hats and await February, 2007.

Okay I am officially into this movie as of now. That poster is amazing, good looking and totally creepy. Hannibal Rising and There Will Be Blood are my top two most anticipated films for 2007. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE RISE OF HANNIBAL LECTER!!!!!

The excerpt is amazing. I strongly recommend all Lecter fans to check it out. It's surprisingly pivitol for a teaser.

The first teaser trailer has been released out there into the www. I'm not sure where exactly but the teaser does give us some pretty good footage. Unfortunately, it is the French teaser trailer so all of the title cards and what not are in French. Didn't understand a word of it, but imagery is universal (no pun intended. the movie is being distributed by Universal, by the way.) I don't know where the trailer is, but it's out there somewhere and I'm sure someone will have it on YouTube in no time at all. Bring on the English teaser I say.

Meanwhile, I've just finished reading the book and I gotta tell you, it's something else. It has that Thomas Harris flair and his usual intense moments of thrills and chills. I'm a huge Hannibal Lecter nut so this book has been a long time coming for me and I have to say that the first kill from Hannibal was the most exciting moment I've ever had reading a book. And no, I'm not a literotica reader at all. It's a very, very different book from the other three installments in the quadrilogy, but it is well worth checking out if you're not a Lecter fan and if you are, then it's an absolute must. It was easy to get through, never dull and the characters are really well defined. Thomas Harris adds some of those odd observational details about life and love and death that have made him famous worldwide. Hannibal Lecter is one of (if not the) most loved villains in fiction. Now, we get to see how Hannibal became the Cannibal. It's a truly brilliant book. Cannot wait for the adaption.

I’ve read the book and listened to the audio book. The audio book was better, it was read by Thomas Harris himself and he’s as good as any actor reader. He was excellent with accents and had a pleasant voice.

The book seemed slower to me for some reason, but that was probably due to me being a very slow reader. I can see how some would see this as a little boring perhaps. It didn’t to me because I enjoy WW II stuff and being from that part of the world I enjoyed that bit.

The book does describe how Hannibal came to be Hannibal the Cannibal, but as weird as it might seem, it left me feeling for him. I felt sympathy for him and that is fine, but for those looking for more of a thriller/horror type story, it does fall a little short. There was almost none of Dr. Lector's superb and brilliant dialogue, as in “Silence” and I missed that.

The trailer looks alright to me and I will absolutely go see it, I just hope that for the movie they REALLY tighten up the script and kick up the suspense and scare factor. I enjoyed the book, but watching the movie, I want to be on the edge of my seat with a raised heartbeat. Don’t want it to come off as a drama.

There's another new trailer. It's heaps better than the old one. I think they've changed the screenplay quite a bit, which is really excellent because the book does definitely need some improvement. There are a couple of lines and moments that are in the trailer that I don't remember from the book. So I think they have muddled around with it quite a bit.

I am so excited about this movie. I cannot wait to see it.

Holy freaking God. I don't think I've ever liked a trailer more than I like this one. They've certainly fudged around with the book a lot. Mommund's face wasn't eaten off in the novel, as far as I recall. And I don't remember that scene where Hannibal stabs the guy in the hand with his fork. That wasn't in the book either, as far as I recall. It would certainly seem that they've spent a lot more time on the screenplay than what was spent on the novel, which I liked.

I am super excited about this movie. That moment where Hopkin's faces merges into Ulleli's was so exhilirating. Sort of symbolically passing the torch between the two actors. I cannot wait to get into the movies and see this baby.

I've been a fan of Hannibal for years so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this movie.

I've got mixed feelings about this one. Hannibal Lecter always struck me as pure evil, not some kid who didn't get enough hugs in his childhood. Still, should be interesting to see how he got started and book adaptations with the author playing screenwriter usually turn out better than those without. Thomas Harris wrote the screenplay although, considering the book came out in December, I'm not sure if he wrote it on his own accord or if he wrote it just because they were making another Hannibal movie. I don't know. I guess I'll just have to see how this turns out.

The trailer looks pretty cool. Hannibal locking the guy in the chamber filling with water kind of gets under my skin. Don't know why. I'm curious to see what that's all about.

This trailer is always on and i am eagely anticipating its release. I saw Hannibal again the other night and that got me into these movies again. Can't wait. CLARIIICE

I agree; however, I don't think that just because someone has a bad childhood, they necessarily turn out to be evil, so, with or without this bad childhood, I have a feeling that Hannibal would have turned out the same and I don't think this movie is trying to blame his past for how he is today. Then again, I haven't read the book that this movie is based on so... I could be wrong.

Good people can have bad childhoods, but in the case of Hannibal Lecter, I don't think he would have become Hannibal the Cannibal had these events not taken place. I read the book and it seemed pretty clear to me that he would have been a nice, normal, well-adjusted person had his entire family not been massacred during the battles in Lithuania. This is just my interpretation of the events, your points of view obviously differ from mine.

Anywho, the movie came out yesterday in Aus. I didn't get a chance to see it yet but I'm hopefully going today or tomorrow. Cannot wait to see it.

And there is that. Tell me one person who would come away completely unharmed after being forced to ingest part's of his own sister. It's actual quite the heartbreaking story if you stop to think about it for a second.

I'll wait till the movie comes out to comment further. I really don't want to get spoiled on any major event in the story.
