IESB.net chatted with Doug Jones, who portrayed Abe Sapien in Hellboy, about the sequel. Here's a clip:

Doug reveals that while shooting Pan's Labyrinth in Spain, del Toro stated that Abe will indeed have more screen time and that this time he gets a chance to fight some baddies. He admits that he has not yet read the script but that Guillermo promises that Abe will be on an equal playing level with Hellboy.-Moviehole

'Hellboy 2' Sent to the Pits of Development Hell...

According to Variety, Sony has “bowed out” and Guillermo del Toro has decided to helm another film (The Witches); this leaves the sequel without a studio or a director.

I've been meaning to update this thread. It seems the Hellboy Sequel has found a new home at Universal Pictures and it looks like Guillermo del Toro still intends to helm this one.

Also, Ain't-It-Cool-News has posted spoilerish Hellboy 2: The Golden Army plot details, which you may or may not want to know this early. In my opinion the plot really sounds lame. Judge for yourself.

I didn't see the first film, but after reading the plot for the sequel, I think I also have to agree that that sounds lame.
