SPOILERS ABOUT THE DEPARTED AHEAD





I just read that the screenwriter is working on a sequel to the Departed which would be based on the Mark Wahlberg character, well since he and Alec Baldwin are the only characters that lives that would be their only option.

I don't think this is such a swell idea, I mean, Dignam was my favorite character, but he had the perfect amount of screen time, all his lines were great, but a feature based on him I don't know how it would work.

If they plan on doing this I think a prequel would be better, with Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon, I think that would be better, eventhough I'm not thrilled with that idea either, but I think it would work better than what they are planning.

I don't know if Scorsese will be involved in this, if it does happen I hope he would cause he may be able to make it not as bad as I think it could be.

With a massive bloodletting at the climax of "The Departed" that left almost no one standing, you'd think it would be hard to make a sequel. A domestic take of $125.2 million is making Warner Bros. Pictures and director Martin Scorsese think otherwise.

Talks are under way to put together a sequel to the crime thriller, which has garnered five Academy Award nominations and is Scorsese's biggest boxoffice hit in a career that spans more than four decades.

Sources say that "Departed" writer William Monahan is working on a take that would involve Dignam, the temperamental foul-mouthed cop played by Mark Wahlberg, who received an Oscar nomination for the role, and introduce a new character to be played by Robert De Niro. Sources caution that Scorsese would need to approve any take before development could move forward.

A prequel is not being ruled out, either. The Departed is an adaptation of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, to which Warner Bros. acquired the rights in 2003. The studio also had option rights to the movie's two sequels.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing another Departed movie, expecially if De Niro is going to be in it.

Yeah I'm usually very, very hesitant towards all sequels, especially ones to movies as good as The Departed, but I'm all for this. If Scorsese is on board, of course. If he's not doing it, then I'm not seeing it, but I think it's a fantastic idea. Would this be Scrosese's first sequel/prequel or continuation of another story? I think it might be.

And it's about time Scorsese and De Niro did another flick together. I can't even remember what their last movie was together. I want to say the remake of Cape Fear, but I'm sure that's wrong.

Well The Departed 2 is definitely a go. And possibly The Departed 3?

I actually think this is pretty cool. It's about time Scorsese (if he is on board) and De Niro hooked up again. It's been too long.
