In case you haven’t heard, Transformers is setting records at the box-office. In two-and-a-half days, it has grossed $65.6 million, set a new Tuesday box office record and become the third-highest grossing movie on a Wednesday, surpassing movies like Star Wars: Episode I and The Passion of The Christ which both opened on a Wednesday.

So what does that all mean? The yet to be confirmed sequel is now almost a certainty.

Entertainment Weekly talked with Transformers director Michael Bay, who says he has ideas for another film.

Quoted Text
Let's see how this one does. I've got a lot of ideas for the next one. There's a lot of really cool, big robot stuff that I had in my head that we didn't do. I just want to see how this works. You might not grow as much as a director [to do a sequel]. But it's kind of like you have your baby and you don't want someone else to take it.

Not only will Micheal Bay be returning to direct... he will also write this time around.

Sounds interesting.

I actually got a sneak peek at Michael's early draft of ACT I

Quoted Text

FADE IN:

EXT. ABANDONED OIL RIG/OR MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON - NIGHT

It's dark. Like, you can't see anything'cause it's really dark. And you're wondering "Is this the wrong movie?" then WHAM! the screen explodes in the biggest explosion ever and it's all filmed IN SLOW-MOTION! And a car flies through the air and some actor is in it and he's saying stuff. Not happy stuff. Preferrably cool stuff, without too many words in it like "Here we go!" or "Bitchin'!" so you know it's a MICHAEL BAY movie.

Then CUT TO some other actors some other place and they're like cops or Marines or fire-fighters 'cause they're wearing some kind of uniform and HAVE GUNS. They talk and say stuff and suddenly a fight breaks out over a HOT GIRL and the camera is like WHAAAA! Spinning around them IN SLOW-MOTION and we get a close-up of the girl's face and we realize it's that chick from the previous movie, you know the insanely hot one I totally did, only this time She knows KUNG-FU! Just as she's about to put her foot down THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE jumps out of a humvee and is MAD about something. (probably something about national security, that's like a real issue!)

Then some more stuff explodes and the humvee turns into a DECEPTICON and the camera is like WHAAA!! SHAAAA!!! up and down!!! And everybody's yelling cool stuff shooting their guns while jumping through the air, dodging cars flying everywhere.

Anyway so then the Autobots get there and since the black robot died in the last movie this time there's an ASIAN AUTOBOT who talks funny and is great with computers and math. Might be a black-belt too, although it might be kinda unrealistic that robots know Karate. Also the belt would probable fall off when they fight. I'm gonna have to post a poll on my blog to find out what people think, and then ignore it because I'm MICHAEL BAY.

That's about it so far. Now give me $400 million.

Note to effects guys: Could you make actors in CGI this time? Would save lots of money in catering and Kung fu lessons.

Sincerely,

BAY

P.S. You may have noticed there isn't any dialogue in this draft, but I always felt that stuff could be worked out on the day of shooting anyway.

Hey,

AWESOME.

It's about time there's an Asian autobot, and frankly, it'd be unrealistic if the Asian robot didn't know karate.

I hope he decides to just cut all the dialog. Why waste time talking when we could have just three straight hours of giant sumo wrestling robots?

The author of that first act is obviously a genius and deserves lots of praise and money.

Well done, Michael Bay.

After watching several Bay films, I've noticed most of them lack substance entirely. I've learned to expect nothing but Action his movies, and I expect to get that with the sequel. If it's as entertaining as the first one, I'm in.

The first one had its moments, and the teaser is pretty cool.

Should be worth a look.

Chism don't be fooled by all the wicked effects, it was the worst movie. ALL they had was effects and they even had trouble showing them with the worst steadycam i've seen since Bourne Ultimatum.

Now, was it supposed to be Steadicam or was it done "handheld" style which is shakier giving the audience a sort of "trapped in the moment" feel.

haha, quite obviously it WAS NOT steady cam on either of those films. They ran around with the camera on purpose to try and make you feel like you were there. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and in this case I think they just went a little overboard. But nothing unbearable.

The original was a fun action movie and the next one will be as well, and that's all they're meant to be. Every decade has had shallow films that are effects heavy. We just live in a more cynical world where it's politically correct to hate on CGI.

These kind of movies have their place. If all we ever had were extremely deep, intellectual films, I don't think I'd be watching movies as often.

Whoops, sorry. I meant handheld. Fair enough theres a place for mindless action movies, but transformers was beyond that. They spent no time on the story at all. There was nothing. Anyway, I'll still probably end up seeing this and then dissing it like so many other Michael Bay movies.
