An awesome new trailer has been released for Robert Zemeckis' adaptation of the Old English epic poem Beowulf. The film features performances by Angelina Jolie (see below), Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, John Malkovich and Dominic Keating.
Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
I was really looking forward to this film until I found out A-that it was animated, and B-that it is likely to be cut-down to a PG-13 (I can understand why....Rated R animation--bad for the box office).
I don't mind animated films, in fact, I love them. But I expected Beowulf to be adapted into a big, glorious live action movie. I guess I can kiss my dream goodbye. Plus, the CGI in certain parts doesn't even look that good. It looked better in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and that came out more than a year earlier.
I still have hopes they will at least stay true to the story (poem) and give us a good animated flick. And I also hope they improve on the animation--A LOT. The only scenes that looked realistic enough for me were the ones near the end of the trailer...it almost didn't look like animation. But the rest of the trailer looked like something out of the X-Box.
Why is Beowulf suddenly a popular story? I saw the 2005 movie with Gerard Butler (from 300) and it stunk! Then Sci-Fi channel had a crappy made-for-tv movie of it and it stunk! Now Zemeckis is remaking it too? hmm...
Zemeckis better be careful with these animated films though. Polar Express was some of the ugliest animation I've ever seen...
