Yeah, I see your point, and must be something to it as Phil said similar. Obviously hard to just take the trailer at face value when I only read the script again recently, I am sure that this trailer just highlights the family family drama side of it much more. I guess the marketing dept are having trouble deciding how to sell a film which is effectively about Mel Gibson's character having a breakdown when their market research and focus groups are telling them people hate Mel Gibson. I am assuming the best bits of the film, and funniest bits, are being kept out of public view for now.
One can never underestermate the power of a marketing dept to completely ruin a films chances before it has even opened.
Not sure how I feel about this one. The fact that it's Mel Gibson just puts a weird spin on the whole thing. It's like Polanski's The Ghost Writer. I'm not sure if the irony's tragic or farcical. If this is among the last of Gibson's career... and when the entire cast and crew of The Hangover sequel is fiercely opposed to a cameo appearance, it could be... it will most certainly be the former. And honestly, I do think it's kinda sad. Dude is (was?) talented.
I think Gibson should do his super awesome, carnage laden, OMG, best action movie ever! Viking flick and retire. A talking Aussie beaver is gonna be a hard sell when the lead actor's literally hit the square root of prejudice. Super awesome Vikings chopping people up in their native Norse language = win.
