People might disagree but I am Legend has got to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's no doubt in my top 5.
Everyone's got their faves, but I Am Legend top 5 all time? Yep, gonna have to disagree.
I thought it was a CGI-riddled, crapp version of one of the greatest vampire novels ever. It was really disappointing to me because I love Matheson's original story and I also thought Omega Man was an interesting take on the source material.
But the Will Smith version was a disaster on every level, IMO.
I remember recommending Legend to some friends. After they watched it, they basically said"WTF were you smokin? Thanks for wasting two hours of my life."
Lost some credibility as a movie critic to say the least. I still stick to my guns, though. I liked the film. Funny how people either really like it or hate the hell out of it...
apparently will smith won't commit until there's a written script. then again, what does he care? he's too busy making movies for his kids to star in...
It's disappointing Smith didn't get involved on Django. Not a huge fan of Foxx. Rest of the cast seems excellent, and to be fair, Foxx is actually a strong actor. He was good in Collateral and Ray. Nowhere near the range of the hugely underrated Smith, though. Smith showed his chops with I Am Legend, Seven Pounds and Pursuit of Happyness.
Perhaps Smith's waiting for a tie-up with Cruise before working with Tarantino.
I suspect Will Smith had moral reasons for not signing to Django. The script sounds utterly grotesque with or without Tarantino's name attached.
Anyway, I have no idea how a sequel to I Am Legend is supposed to work, at least with Smith involved. As I understand it, the ending of the book and the movie are the same. Neither really leaves a door open for a Part 2. I suspect a prequel or a transition that makes no sense.
Never saw the original. Will Smith is enjoyable enough but I have no interest in a CGI laden adaptation of a classic horror novel that couldn't been produced for dirt cheap.
