Looks like it's finally happening this time.

Could be the best thing ever. We'll just have to see.

Rogen and Goldberg? I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but a risky choice for sure.

AMC is pretty ballsy. But are they THAT ballsy? Impossible.

What are they going to do? Turn it into a stoner comedy? I doubt it. Besides, there's enough dick jokes in Preacher already to satisfy the stoner palate.

I have faith in them. I think the worst-case scenario is they turn in a lackluster script. That's a risk any writer would run.

Other than that, they have Ennis's seal of approval, which goes a long way in my book. I also think any true fan of Preacher would want to see it done right. The material is just so good, no one who genuinely cared about it would want to fuck with it.

We've got a Breaking Bad alumnus on board. Ennis and Dillon seem to have some sort of involvement. Everyone seems to know what a special thing they've got here. I think there's much to be hopeful about.

James, you should know better than to get yours hope up, man. At best, it meets your expectations. At worst... well, let's not talk about that. Now, I was never a fan of Preacher (I don't know. The tone never gelled with me), but it's good that they're going along with making things that are a little more challenging than their standard fare. Problem, is, I had a similar hope for TWD when it first came on. Then, season 2 happened.

Point is, try and keep your expectations low so you can not be as upset if it comes out poorly or be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't. =)

I agree that there's potential, but Rogen/Goldberg have nothing on their resume except stoner comedies. It's risky given their credentials. Oh and then there's the Green Hornet (which Goldberg produced).

Meh. I keep my expectations low all the time. And they're often met so I'm never at a loss for cynicism.

I've been waiting for a Preacher adaptation for over ten years. It's one of the last big things I can truly geek out about. Even if it's disappointing, I probably won't get a chance to be this excited about anything else for a long time.

Also, I don't know what happened with TWD but AMC also made Breaking Bad. Whatever capacity they have to completely drop the ball, they also have the capacity to produce amazing work. Who's to say what'll happen with Preacher?

Over the last couple of years, I've learned not to be surprised by great things coming from people you don't expect. I mean, I didn't expect these two to be able to pull off some of the set pieces in This is the End. But they did. And again, they have Ennis's blessing, which seriously means a lot to me.

Besides, they're only writing the pilot. They could easily just lift material from the first issue or whatever like Robert Rodriguez and Zack Snyder did with their Sin City/Watchmen adaptations. After that, they're just executive producers. What does that even mean nowadays? At the very least, they could keep watch over things to make sure the show stays the course.

Sam Catlin is the showrunner. She just came off working on the greatest show of all time.

Good hands, me thinks.

The Preacher property reminds me a lot of Watchmen. Both have been kicking around Hollwood for years and have been viewed as unfilmable gems nobody could figure out. (I liked Watchmen for what it was) Preacher could never be a movie so I'm glad it won't be. I think AMC realizes what a hit this could be if done right so I'm hoping against hope it will be. Preacher is far and away my favorite comic ever. All the issues felt and read like a movie anyway thanks to Ennis' writing and Dillon's amazing pencils. I really don't think converting it will be hard if they just follow the book panel by panel, page by page. I'm not worried about the violence carrying over though so much as I am about the language. I mean, whats an acceptable amount of fucks they can put on TV these days?

From Cameron: Preacher is far and away my favorite comic ever.

Yeah, but, but...  What about Hellblazer...?!?

Then again, look how they butchered THAT.
Fortunately, this is AMC.  They have a chance of doing Preacher right.

Preacher is also my all time favorite comic but I do enjoy Hellblazer as well. Too bad the film adaptation is worthless.

Apparently, Hellblazer is also being made into a series by NBC with David Goyer producing and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) directing the pilot. That one, I don't have high hopes for but I dig Marshall's work and it'd be nice to see a version with at least some semblance to the source material.

I'll be tuning in shortly. I'm really interested to see Joe Gilgun, he's perfect for Cassidy. His dual-role acting in Misfits was amazing so I expect him to steal the show in this.

For a pilot, I'd say it was way solid and promising comic-to-tv. There were things I didn't like about it, and I can see some of the same pitfalls The Walking Dead had. And like TWD, not an exact match to the material, with one very significant event missing from the pilot. But overall, I'm looking forward to intense payoff episodes. Every scene with Tulip or Cassidy rocked. Cassidy's "Beetlejuice-y" moment was killer. And so much more to come! Preacher feels like another winner to me.

Mixed feelings. They've changed A LOT from the comics. Some changes were mere surface or otherwise insignificant and par for the course of an adaptation. Others made me wonder if they even plan on following the same story. I haven't read the comics in a while, but as far as I could tell, there were only a handful of scenes, altered or not, that were taken from them, which I found disappointing and left me feeling like there wasn't much to hold onto as a reader.

The tone is also a bit wild, i.e. inconsistent, but that's Preacher. I'd imagine it's a formidable beast to pin down for the purposes of television. The moments that worked were a lot of fun, Cassidy's Mary Poppins moment perhaps being my favorite. That scene was all original work from Rogen/Goldberg, but captured the spirit of the source material quite nicely.

Cassidy was the closest to the comics, I thought. Him putting on those glasses for the first time was a moment. I was worried they'd done away with them for a second. Unfortunately, I thought Jesse, the titular "Preacher" himself, was the furthest removed, and the way "The Word" played out left me with some questions. Might have to dip into the comics again.

All that said, this IS a pilot. There's always issues to be had, no matter what the material is. I also watched it back to back with Game of Thrones' "The Door," which will go down as a legendary episode of the series.

I think Preacher will ultimately play better for those who haven't read the comics. I've had such a distinct vision for a Preacher adaptation for years, and it's clearly this isn't quite it. At the same time, it probably was never going to be, no matter who was at the helm. I can go with that. I think Rogen and Goldberg are extremely talented and I have faith in them as fans. Let's see where this goes.
