...on your title page. To put or not to put? I've heard mixed thoughts.
Just curious. |

Placing the WGA number on the title page is generally considered the mark of a rank amateur.
Do I put the WGA number on the title page? No -- and I never have.
Having a script “stolen” is really the least of my worries and I don’t even think about it. I assume the producer/prodco knows the script is mine and that it’s registered and that’s the end of it. Besides, I don’t submit scripts to shady producers. Then again, I have representation, so that helps weed out potential troublemakers.
So, should you put the reg number on your title page? I recommend that you don’t. But if you do, it certainly won’t sink a terrific script. Just make sure the script is truly terrific. |

Well, out of curiosity, what about a copyright on the title page? |

Same as with the WGA #. Not recommended. But if you feel you must put either one, go for it. |

Interesting. Personally, at least when posting my stuff online, I'd prefer to have the little C on there, simply because you never know what to expect on the Internet. Thanks for the words, Jim! |

Just saying that the script is copywritten or registered should be enough. Should someone ask for verification, you can provide it.

I have two scenes I would like to post and get feed back from. Neither scenes are copyrighted. Does this matter or should I go ahead and post? |

Well, if they're not copyrighted, they won't be protected, but given that it's only two scenes I doubt it's a big deal.
However, I wouldn't recommend posting the scenes here at this time. There's very little feedback to be given that would really benefit you given such a short blurb.
Most feedback here is based around the story as a whole with other little tidbits thrown in.
Are these two scenes out of a short or a feature? |

Anything original that you write is automatically copyrighted to you - since you wrote it - and you can sue anyone who plagiarize you for copyright infringement. BUT In order to PROVE that you wrote it (or wrote it first) - you have to register it with either the copyright office or WGA or you can do both. |

Shelton and Sniper, thanks.
They are two scenes of a feature. I don't have any screen writing education. I'm using whats on the internet (as far as format and jargon (e.g. (O.C))).
I just wanted some feedback because I'm unsure of my creativity and screen writing capability. I've always heard if you think you'll fail, you will. I don't think I'll fail at this; I just need to know if I'm on the right track. Let me know how I can send it to you and I will.
By the way, what percent of screenplays actually get bought/made into an actual feature? |

Wesley will probably go bananas, but post them in the WIP thread. Try to take note of some of the people giving you feedback though. You could return the favor by taking a gander at one of their short scripts.
To answer your question about the percentage of screenplays that are bought and made. It's WAY less than 1% of scripts that are actually written. A screenplay that is simply bought and never made is a little higher percentage. |

I have the registration number on a group of mine less for the potential producers and more for the general populace, one of which implied shopping it around as his own. It was (and still is) more as a scare tactic for this individual than anything else. It's been a couple years, though, and I've just never really cared to remove it. |
