My boyfriend and I are working on a stage musical. Not a film. Not a TV show. Not a short script. Not a comic strip. Not a comic book. Not a graphic novel. We're writing a stage musical. Problem is, we don't write music.
I'm awful at describing plots, but the story is set in Boston in the late 1800s. We want to do a more traditional musical along the lines of Herman and R&H. Nothing pop or rock inspired.
We have the first act outlined and I'm working on the second now. PM me if you want more details.
I know someone who could score this for you, but it would cost. They are based out of LA and have done numerous projects. This is not something you are going to get for free. Scoring a film is a very hard, time consuming job. Let me know if you are interested and I can make a call.
I don't think anyone will do this for free, like I mentioned earlier. I just wanted to let him know that I know an accomplished composer and song writer who has already scored some movies which have been produced. I was just offering a suggestion.
If you read my post correctly, you'd know that we're not writing a film.
Your post says that you're writing a non-musical MOVIE. Are you saying that you're writing a stage show/play? If so, that's not clear in your first post.
Had I seen this post when it first went up two months ago, I probably would have pointed you in a direction similar to what you ended up with. There are a lot of composers out there willing to score for the exposure. Just like a writer with his shorts.
If you read my post correctly, you'd know that we're not writing a film.
We actually found a composer out of England who's doing it for free. He wants the experience, not the money.
Your initial post is very confusing. If you are working on a musical with no dialougue, than this composer will take majority of the credit for your script. Be careful.
Where did we say it didn't have any dialogue? We're writing a musical. Not an opera.
How can the composer take credit for anything except the music? He's not writing lyrics or the book.
So you are going to write the lyrics and the book and need the composer to turn your lyrics into songs. Is that correct? The composer will take credit as a co-song writer since he or she will be responsible for the music. Have you ever done this before? I have and the more people you involve in the creative process, the more trouble you are asking for. Just some friendly advice.
