I loved napoleon Dynamite when I saw, but something told me that there wasn't alot going on behind the scenes when this movie was being filmed, so most likely not many extras. I was partially right. There where far more extras than I thought, but still not quite enough to hit the spot, if you know what I mean... which I doubt you do. So i'll just move on.

It is a split disc, meaning one side is fullscreen and the other is widescreen. Each side has their own extras. I just forget what side has what and i'm too lazy to go upstairs and find out. There is a stunningly good, flowing short film called "Peluca" that the full length feature was based on. There is commentary that, to tell you the truth, didn't really excite me. I know, they're not really supposed to excite me, but most commentaries do, but this one was plain out boring, and that's something I hated to happen. There are a few deleted scenes. And I know why half of them where deleted, either they weren't written well or just not pulled off good. But there was one that I forget that had me rolling laughing. There is a still gallery, nothing special here. There are a few trailers for movies and the making of the Wedding of the Univese.

Overall: 3.5/5 for the DVD. My movie review, which you can find in it's entirety on the Movie review board, for Napoleon Dynamite got a 4.5/5

FAVORITE MOVIES:
1. Clerks
2. Mallrats
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. Napoleon Dynamite
5. American Beauty
6. Spanglish
pretty much any kevin smith flick or movie with Adam Sandler.

I watched this movie for the 1st time lastnight with a buddy of mine who insist I watch it... So I did and I walked away with a very strange feeling.

1- This movie is odd, it is.  It is one of the most peculiar movies and random movies you could ever wish to see.  It's so random that it's funnier than the movie its self.

2- What time period was this movie supposed to be in? I don't get it?  The clothes, the cars, the style, everything was 80's like hard hard hard core 80's... all but the one nagging thing and that was the internet... If that had not been in the movie and the backstreet boys song... I'd have swore this movie was set in the 80's and hell, made in the 80's for that matter, they really captured that feel here... better than any other movie set in peirods like such... well, maybe Wet hot american summer did it better... but only slightly.

ok then... on with the on~

This movie was funny, it was... but it was so strange it was hard to laugh at most of it.  The friendship between Pedro and Napoleon was just as strange as the Uncle eating steak all the time WTF was that all about?

I also felt very sorry for that sorry prick!  The uncle... he was a complete jack ass and they couldn't have had a better guy play him, he pulled that role off perfect!  LMFAO

The plot???  Well, there wasn't one established until about an hour into the movie, which really kinda bothered me... Pedro winning the President of the school was the only plot in the movie, the rest was just filler and random garbage to make you laugh, scratch your head or just shake it.

This, however, didn't really effect the mood or movie too much cause it had it's moments of just LOL funny parts... The karate instructor and the boyfriend of the girl running for president was just... they were two characters that just really stuck out and made the show even better.  The boyfriend of the girl had some of the most random and just snid looks to give to the camera, you couldn't help but relate to him for that.  The karate instructor was a blast, cause he was just so practiced... great stuff there.

However, Napoleon... the lead and main character... left me with a bad taste in my mouth... he wasn't funny, he wasn't cool, he wasn't even remotley fun to laugh at... he was just a giant tool and I didn't care for him one bit.

Pedro,  the brother and the uncle are the 3 really big draws for this movie and of course the Karate instuctor and the boyfriend, however, they play such little roles in the movie.

On a whole... I really dig this movies vibe, but since the plot was none exsistant and the lead character made me ill... I have to give the movie a 3 out of 5.

~ Still a good movie, maybe even a good movie to have in your collection and it is funnier than any of the lame dick American pie movies and the ultra shitty Mean Girls and so many other supposed funny movies... It easily eclipses all of them Saturday night live guy movies like -- The animal, Dickie Roberts, Any movie with Adam Sandler, The ladies man etc...etc..etc..

I'd watch it just to see how abstract people can really be.

Baltis~

Good thoughts~

Same with my school. People are obsessed with this film, I just saw today and it's utterly boring, over long, and somewhat depressing.

I bet the people who dont like this movie dont like it BECAUSE of their school. I saw it in the theaters twice, and back then no one really cared about it... didnt hate it, didnt like it. it was one of those movies such a little amount of people go to see it makes it great, for lack of better words, it wasn't as mainstream as other movies.

But suddenly, here comes the DVD and all of a sudden people care? That's dumb. And people that saw it because "friends" told them to probably didnt like it because it was hyped more then it should have been. It should have stayed a low budget comedy.... but people try to make it more than it is.

And you probably here people quoting this movie in school and making Napoleon's voice, blah blah. That probably made you hate it even more, cause most people to do it suck.

I guess it's good being older afterall...  Being 26 now and having a life outside of the confides of school walls is very liberating in a lot of ways.  I get a chance to see how fuggin' stupid and absurd people really are at that age.

I remember, in my day, man I sound creepy old now...  It was them stupid ass Jim Carey ACE VENTURA movies everyone would quote and also that fuggin' MASK movie he did.  God, I wanted to just friggin' scream!  Beavis and Butthead was another one...

School sucks for so many reasons and the youth of america is one big reason why.

BALTIS~

With that said, Napoleon Dynamite was a genuine funny movie at heart... although, the lead character wasn't funny in the least.  I think the only thing he said that was funny, to me anyways, was when he was drawing on the steps and the girl asked him what he was drawing. He responded with "A LIGER" She said "What's a LIGER?" he said "Only my most favorite animal in exsistance."

I thought that was pretty great... However, the movie as a whole was only what it was because of the incredible people around the lead actor.  They made this movie what it was... so any brilliant moments in it, came from them, not him.

I see this trend in a lot of movies... Where the lead is actor/actress is supposed to be funny, but they never are.  You get this with a lot of them chump butters from Saturday night live in there movies, everyone around them is funny... never them.  Also, in ALONG CAME POLLY, I think this is the movie... BEN STILLER, who's rarely funny anyways... wasn't funny in this either.  ALEC BALDWIN had the funniest parts, who'd have thunk that one?

Anyways, I better finish up some paper work so I can go home early...

good thoughts~

This movie was hilarious, even more so for me because of where I live. There are actually people in my town who are like characters in the movie. Napoleon's uncle's speech about how he could have been a millionaire pro football player? That's how people here think. Most of them suck at basketball, but they all think they'll become big time hotshots when in reality they'll end up stuck here for the rest of their lives, selling tupperware.

Because of little things like that I probably found it a lot funnier than most. Overall, it was probably one of the funniest movies of the year (right alongside Harold and Kumar). The story is pretty simple, most of the movie just seemed to be a way of letting the characters run. Which was great, as the characters were all excellent.

Best scene? Has to be Pedro's 'crew' driving up in their car staring down the bully, with VOTE 4 PEDRO on the side. Every time I watch it I start laughing when they pull up.

The DVD wasn't too bad, it's nothing to celebrate about but it didn't loose my interest. I always listen to commentaries, so this one kept me entertained throughout. I haven't watched Peluca yet, I haven't had much time with exams as of late (bah to exams I say!).

Movie: **** out of ****
DVD: *** out of ****

I watch it over-and-over again.  I know, and I've known, many people who are just like the characters from the movie, and people who have some traits like the characters from the movie.  They pulled it off perfectly.  As for the clothing style, go to some of the small towns in Saskatchewan, and you'll see clothes like that.  Perfect movie.  I watch it again and again.

To each his or her own, I guess.
Personally, I found the film utterly dreadful, they had one innovative character and he was repellent.
Then again as Freak and Alan pointed out I guess it's where you grew up and the people you hang with.
Honestly I relate more to Dante from "Clerks" and Ross from "Friends" then any of the characters in Napoleon Dynamite.

I'm actually quite surprised how many people on this site liked this film.
It was a lackluster script and it was filmed in the same manner.

There was a lot of depth.  And the main plot was deep, but portrayed with brilliant subtlety.  the main plot was not the election, but it was in fact the disturbance caused to the Dynamite household by that guy who spends all his time living in the past.  I love the part when Napoleon reveals that he tamed that wild horse.  Funny stuff.
