I was expecting this movie to be creepy, and guess what, it was! This movie made me think twice about inching towards the computer or pulling out my cell phone that constantly rang during the movie (good thing it was on silent).

This movie had a confusing plot at first, but as we get deeper into the movie, I began to understand what was happening.

SPOILERS WITHIN!

A girl named Mattie just witnessed her boyfriends suicide, and she wants to know why he did it. Turns out these ghosts "sucked" his sould out and he began to die away slowly on the inside. So these ghosts are like a virus or something that get through cell phones, computers, the Internet, anything that needs a signal to work.

The movie starts out with all these different suicides all around the state. Soon Mattie and her friends begin experiencing weird stuff, like getting messages from Josh, who is already dead. Her friends begin to die off one by one, and soon, the whole world becomes "infected" by the ghosts, and the only way to keep them out is either by getting in dead air where there aren't any signals, or by putting red duct tape on every single crack, hole, pretty much everywhere in the room. I don't know why it keeps them out, but it just does.

Kristen Bell (who played Mattie) wasn't that good of an actress at the beginning of the movie, but as the movie moved on, she seemed to get a little better, but not the best. And whenever she cried, no tears would come out, but she'd wipe away her cheeks where tears were supposed to be. But still, she was okay: the innocent girl who screams and tries to find out stuff in these sort of movies, the perfect part for her.

Then there is Ian Somerhalder who played Dexter. First, he's a nobody fixing his car who bought Josh's computer, and then the next day, he knows a lot of stuff about Mattie and her boyrfriend (sort of). But he was a good guy who him and Mattie looked better as a couple more than Josh and her. I think he was a hacker also since he was able to get into all this secret mumbo jumbo on Josh's Hard Drive.

The acting wasn't too well in the movie, but I can handle it. As long as it either creeps me out or makes me jump, it's good to go.

All in all, this movie was weird and creepy and I plan on getting it on DVD.

And another weird thing, I came home, looked at my computer, and when I turned it on, my computer didn't start up as it usually did, it started wigging out and I got a little creeped out. Turned out my computer was trying to find a new start up file or something like that, so I was kind of relieved...but still, this was a good plot they had since everyone practically lives on the internet. And it seemed like it took only a few days for the world to go into an apocolyptic stage...almost like a zombie movie!

***1/2 out of ****

I saw the Japanese version of this movie that Wes Craven ripped off and if you said it was good Sean then that is amazing, because the Japanese version of this film sucked so much ass.  He must have really made a good adaptation to the American market.

The Japanese film was so boring I was nearly in tears.  The trailer for the American one looked pretty decent though.  I still don't think I would waste my time with it though.

Haha well I enjoyed it. I don't know about other people, but it just depends on peoples' opinions and stuff.

Wes Craven has been getting a little lame with his movies now, though....I didn't see Curse, but I heard it was terrible. But I thought this was a good movie. I don't know about other people though.

The original Pulse or "Kaïro" as the Japanese version is called is a pretty good flick IMO.

Granted it's slow paced, but it just has amazing imagery and visuals. Also a great ending! Japanese acting does take some getting used to, and I guess it's a matter of temperment if you enjoy it or not.

I thought the trailer for the American remake looked pretty generic and kinda "let's put young, hip TV-stars into another remake"-ish.

Not that I hate remakes per se, but most of them are just so redundant...

I did think the Ring was better than the original by a margin.

I thought the trailer looked familiar. I've had Kairo on DVD for nearly 2 years now... how strange! I liked the original... I know a lot of people who didn't though!

I might check this one out!

I saw this last Saturday. I thought it was alright. The concept was pretty interesting. I just hate that frickin DIMENSION cut it down to a PG-13. Why do they do this to all their horror movies!!!! It's not working because they all bomb anyway! I liked watching Christina Milian...she impressed me. Though her character did some dumb stuff. (Ohh something just pushed open the washing machine and is throwing stuff out...lemme go check. What an idiot) I liked the ending and I don't think Wes Craven ripped anything off because this is an official remake to "Kairo" and in order to remake it you have to take elements from the original. I here there were tons of writers on the script that were uncredited and Wes Craven dropped out pretty early on after Dimension screwed him over on Cursed. The mood was awesome. I think Kairo was creepier though even though it was really boring...the creepy parts were really creepy.

I thought Red-Eye was pretty decent if you didn't look at it as "Horror"(The teaser trailer was completely misleading)
And Cursed....The Unrated version of Cursed Is better (In terms of gore) but it's still bad it's better as a comedy...at least it's better than Dracula 3000. Lol

Pulse was simply meh.

While ol' Wes changed a few things here & there for the American version it still seemed slow as Hell to me.

I dunno I'm just getting tired of the whole remaking of Japanese flicks thing.

That and PG-13 horror flicks - BAH!

I haven't watched the remake yet. This is my take on the original Japanese version Kairo that came out in 2001.

I was rather concerned early on when we were going through mundane tasks such as installing an internet browser complete with entering the serial number in that this movie might run a bit slow. Well, it was definitely a slow burning fuse and a very cerebral flick, as a lot of Japanese horror tends to be.

We get introduced to two people and their immediate cirlce of friends. One is a girl working in a plant shop who has a friend with a side job of programming or something. She goes to his place to get a disk, and he hangs himself just before disappearing into a moldy spot on the wall.

The other is a economics student who installs the internet for the first time (hooray, dial-up!) and is immediately logged onto a video site promising to interact with the dead. This site figures somewhat prominently into the backdrop of this weird plot and multiple videos of the dead are displayed depending on how many monitors they happen to have. Of course, this flips out the student guy, and he usually turns off his computer after a few minutes.

The plant girl slowly loses her friends to their own moldy spots on the walls after they enter a forbidden room, which is a room that has been sealed off by red tape. Anyone who goes into this room and interacts with a ghost will become a moldy spot. The student guy has the same experience, but he befriendsa computer girl who tries to help, but ends up being sucked into the ghostly world via the dead video sites, which apparently have much the same effect as the forbidden room.

Getting lost? Well, it does its best to keep the film moving along despite the relative confusion. We do eventually get a decent explanation of what's going on and it slowly affects everyone in the world until student guy and plant girl are the only ones left and they meet up. Student guy looks for computer girl and in a fit of total randomness, they decide she must be in an abandoned factory. ?!

Of course they find her there, and she reenacts one of the things we saw earlier on the video site. It's Japanese horror, so it's no secret that everyone is totally screwed so it's not much of a spoiler to say it doesn't work out too well for anyone here.

The main pair of characters are pretty well developed through their interactions with their friends, and their friends get developed both before and after they die...or rather, become moldy spots.

In all honesty, the film does build a really creepy atmosphere, and while it's not a scary film, like a lot of Japanese horror, you're bound to be at least a little creeped out by the goings on in this one.
