This is yet another zombie movie! Only low-budget...Unless it did come out into theaters and I had no idea it had come out...Anyways! On to my review...

As I have mentioned, this is a zombie movie that I had recently discovered (actually my mom did as she was looking through movies on deman) and I decided to watch it tonight. Now, for a low budget movie, this was actually quite good. The only downs I had were the fuzzy picture and the continuous shaking of the camera to where you couldn't really tell what was going on. And some of the acting wasn't that great either, but it held.

It starts out with a group of tree huggers getting ready for another day of protecting a forest that a corporation plans to wipe out. Unknown to anyone, or so it seems, the sap in all the trees seems to be genetically altered. So one of the lumber workers is slicing a tree with a chainsaw when he accidentally pulls the chainsaw out too quickly, slicing his shoulder open, and infecting his wound with the gushy sap. Soon he turns and attacks his buddies who try to help him.

Later, a guy named Tyler is sent to the forest to find out why the project has all of a sudden stopped, and guess who sent him? His dad, the boss of the corporation. So Tyler encounters a few zombies, narrowly escapes, and finds a small group of survivors inside a poorly built shack. They go around the forest, trying to find a way out, finding out the two entrances (or exits) are blocked off by someone. One by one they begin to die, and they find out that the head has to be "severed" to actually kill the zombie, or just a simple blow to the head...with a shotgun.

There were a lot of parts that were predictable—such as a man accidentally cutting his thumb with a scapel with the genetically altered sap on it, Tyler and this hippie woman getting intimate, and Tyler's truck crashing as they head for the main exit—but it's fun to guess what's about to happen.

As I said, there were a lot of parts where the acting was really bad or really cheesy, but most of it held and I was able to get through the movie. Another thing that bothered me was how the zombies looked. Most of them were green as if someone rubbed green dye on their skin. They looked like zombie plants...But since they were zombies, I give this a thumbs up!

The story is decent, the actors are okay, the gore effects are awesome (somehow, whenever they hit a zombie with an axe, they happen to get drenched in blood), but the ending is kind of..."okay what happened?" feeling.

7/10

Hey Sean, being as you are obsessed with the zombie genre I wanted to ask if you have seen the Japanese film Versus.

It's a film about a prisoner that escapes his penitentary that is surrounded by a mysterious forrest that revives anyone who dies and transforms them into a zombie.  He's also being followed by a gang that wants him dead.

I didn't really care too much about the movie, but it seems like everyone else that I have talked to loves it.  I love a good zombie flick, but this one just seemed a little too slow.

I don't know how much you enjoy Japanese films, but I think you should give it a look.  I think it would be right up your alley.  Lots of zombies and lots of gore.

Another film that I think you might want to check out is this film called Warning Sign.  It's a film from the 80's about a secret experiment going on in the Nevada Underground that goes horribly wrong and turns the entire crew into crazy ass zombies.  I mean these mofos are nuts.  I believe the main character was a female cop looking for her scientist husband, but I was more fascinated by these zombies.  These things did not play.  You might want to check this one out as well.  I think this was what Paul W.S. Anderson based his "Resident Evil" storyline off of.

Anyway, if you take a look at them, enjoy.

Thanks Guy! I saw a trailer for it just a few minutes ago, and I think I've seen it before while I was on the set of this movie called "Risen" and they played it while all the extras ate and rested on their break. I didn't really understand what was happening since I started watching it from the middle (they were playing Dawn of the Dead '04 before) and so all it was was fighting and stuffs. It was interesting though.

I might have to check it out soon.

Genetically altered sap?

Whoops...Guess I forgot to explain that. A group of scientists had injected something into moss, making it to where the moss would gather nutrients about 3 times as quick or something. Basically trying to get plants to grow faster.

Hey I saw this also a few weeks back and thought it was half way decent.  Like you said there were some cheesy moments, but it was better than some of the other horrid zombie flicks floatin' around.

I loved the part when the zombie outbreak happens - everyone scatters, except for the poor bastards who have chained themselves to the trees so they wouldn't get cut down!     Great joke.

The "super sap" was kinda like  "WTF" but I still say it's worth a watch!
