Okay I looked but didn't see a thread for this so I figured I'd give it a shot!

Okay I've finally been able to sit down and watch the film "Hard Candy" and I can easily say it was one of the better movies of '06.

Directed by David Slade & written by Brian Nelson this is about the world of Internet predators.

It starts off with a friendly familiar online chat between a man and a woman.  They agree to meet.  This is where we find Hailey, a 14 year old girl who looks like the kid next door.  Her suitor is Jeff, who is in his early thirties or so.  They flirt innocently at first, and it slowly ends up that the young girl wants to see Jeffs house.  Once at the house Hailey discovers that Jeff is a photographer and his artwork covers his walls.  Jeff offers his young friend some booze and see declines by saying "they told us in school to never drink anything you didn't mix yourself."

That being said the duo go to the kitchen and down some screwdrivers.  Hailey starts to pester Jeff about wanting him to take her picture and he agrees...Only...Jeff should have listened to Haileys advice about watching who fixes your drink.  Next thing you know Jeff is tied up and finds himself face to face with the most insane 14 year old on Earth. Seems Hailey is convinced Jeff is a pedophile and why not?  He knew her age when they met at the coffee house.  She tears apart his house looking for evidence to prove his guilt.  She also plays some cruel mind games on Jeff to keep him off balance.  The girl that plays Hailey - Ellen Page - is great in this thriller.  Always toying with Jeff and you can't help but laugh at some of her bizarre sense of humor.

As the games (and torture) continue it seems Hailey is also curious about a girl who has recently gone missing.  Seems that Hailey is convinced Jeff knows more than he's telling.  After a long search, she stumbles across Jeffs secret staff & from this point on he knows he's seriously screwed.  Everytime Jeff thinks he has the upper hand on Hailey it turns out she's one step ahead of him.  We're treated to a torture scene that will leave the guys holding their breath and we see that no matter how much of a deviant Jeff is...Hailey is 1000 times worse.

I won't spill the end, but I will say that secrets are revealed and the repercussions are harsh.  A great thriller that I would suggest to anyone who loves a good jolt.

I thought it was very good, innovative and well directed, acted and written. The dialogue was great and had a great style and look to it as well. One part in particular I found very disturbing. I think my fellow males who saw the movie would agree with me.
However, the ending I thought kindof dragged on, and their behavior seemed a little convenient. I mean, how many times is the girl gonna get away and recapture the guy? I thought it would have been BETTER, if it had ended about twenty minutes earlier, but nevertheless, it is definitely worth seeing.

"Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd" - George Carlin
"I have to sign before you shoot me?" - Navin Johnson
"It'll take time to restore chaos" - George W. Bush
"Harry, I love you!" - Ben Affleck
"What are you looking at, sugar t*ts?" - The man without a face
"Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death." - Exodus 31:15
"No one ever expects The Spanish Inquisition!" - The Spanish Inquisition
"Matt Damon" - Matt Damon

I also had the great pleasure of watching this - it was definately worth the watch.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the actress who played Hailey was 19 though

I just got done watching this film and I don't know what to think of it.  I'm not going to write a full review, but I do think it deserves some discussion.

I really don't know how to feel about this film.  First of all I think the actors played their parts perfectly.  Whoever this David Slade is, he's going to be an amazing thriller director.  I think this is one of the first times I will actually say the director made the movie.  The actual script was kind of weak if you think about it.  I read it on here a couple weeks ago and it just played like a revenge film.  But David Slade knew when to edit, cut, add or take away light, everything.  A great effort on his part.

However, the beginning of this film had to be one of the worst 20 mins I have ever seen in my life.  I think I left the room about three times and came back and they were still talking in that damn coffee shop.  But as soon as 20 mins came around it was a whole different movie.

The film itself was pretty tense.  I think any male cringed at certain parts and probably even felt a little remorse for the guy being tormented.  Obviously the guy needed to be punished but there was just something about the way she did it that made it tense.

The film howerver was totally unbelieveable.  Unless there is a huge plothole where this girl actually was an adult, I cannot see a 14 year old overpowering a 32 yr old man.  I don't care how unathletic or soft he is.  I find it a little funny how she had trouble dragging him into the kitchen to place the noose around his neck, but earlier in the film she managed to put him up on a table and tie his arms and legs.  Oh well.  The film "fit" I guess you could say, so it wasn't too infringing.

Nonetheless a very powerful film.  I don't think I have been that emotionally into a film in a long time.  Part of me wishes I never saw this movie, but then another part is happy I did.
