I just recently purchased Brick and i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. I didnt know the guy from Ten Things I Hate About You could act but after i saw Brick, i changed my mind. The only critisism i would have to say was the fact it wasn't long enough, The revelation was annoying at the point it came in my opinion.

Since there's a thread, I thought I'd toss in my 2 cents...

This was a teen high school drama that almost reminds me of a kid version of Goodfellas or something of that nature. It follows a kid who discovers a girl dead in the opening scene. We flashback 2 days to learn he got a phone call from her that contained a lot of words that were completely ambiguous to him like brick, pin, tug, frisco and a few others that he tries to get to the bottom of.

He finds himself in the underbelly of the high school drug world and gets in the employ of the kingpin of the whole operation in order to unravel the mystery of his ex-girlfriend's demise. This was an intricately woven, well-thought-out tale of deception and intrigue where our hero deceives everyone and trusts no one but his buddy, who is the brains behind his movements.

He acquires a variety of contacts, not all of which are trustworthy, until when it appears the whole yarn is unravelled, there is yet one more piece of information he skillfully uncovers to a satisfying conclusion to this this clever little thriller. I admire the writing.

Notice the dialogue!

Couldn't this almost be classified as modern day "film noir" or am I wrong on that?

I've heard it's supposed to be a film-noir or at least maybe classed as one. I dunno.

How's Emilie de Ravin in this? Does she play a totally different character to Claire from Lost? Saw her in The Hills Have Eyes remake and she was very good. Her accent was brilliant in that, seeing as she's Australian.

I may be an idiot, but I'm no idiot.

Well i don't watch must of lost but i think she is quite different from what i've seen. Doesn't have a massive part although he is trying to uncover who killed her ans so on.. Yes it is a high school movie but it is written in such a clever way that you wouldn't even care if you hadn't liked teen movie before this.

Best part is the fact that the Writer/Director said this is basically the first draft. (They made a few edits because it was too long but ostensively this what he wrote.) He said that the script was so tight, you couldn't change anything without hurting the story.

Frankly I wish more writers had the balls to do this.

The film was entertaining and almost like "A Better Place" which is a better film produced by View Askew back a few years. It was about two guys who become friends and it ends violently and in a dark place. "Life is a series of down endings" and that is true for most good films.

Godfather... down ending. Star Wars... down ending. Titanic... down ending. American Beauty... See the pattern? Even if I don't like some of those I mentioned and am going by a majority vote.

I'm not comparing these indy films to those but I am saying they discovered the true formula.
