Stephen Chow leaves for the big city to try and save his home by winning the huge snooker tournament.
WOW! That is all I have to say about this film but I will humor you with more.
I first seen Stephen Chow in Kung Fu Hustle and really enjoyed the film and the comedy and martial arts. I wanted more but couldn't find any on DVD in English until earlier this month when I found yesasia.com which sells a wide range with English subtitles and even region free DVD players (I bought one for the Ong Bak 2 Disc Australian uncut version)
Chinese films usually in my experience have entertained me with martial arts but lately I have started expanding my horizons to grow as a writer/filmmaker and a general film viewer by demanding more.
This film (Legend of The Dragon) is actually funny and has a good story. This is rare in this market. Good martial arts as well.
Reading subtitles isn't funny but somehow it... was.
In one scene, he sings a song that was almost an advertisement for a major food chain in America.
They developed characters really well. The pool was natural and realistic. The fights were on par with any big budget film and probably better in some places.
If you want to see an original film and don't mind subtitles, I honestly must recommend this film. Stephen Chow is a true comedic actor. |
