Hollllllyyyyyyyyyy shite.

If you thought AVP was either a waste of your time or one of the best alien movies you've seen, you won't be disappointed either way. This movie had everything: action, gore, aliens, predator (singular), intense, etc.

They really went all out on this one. I suppose you all know what this movie is about, basically. It starts out where the first one ended, where the pred-alien hybrid chestburster comes through the predator that saved the day in the first AVP. And like in the commercials, the pred-alien brings the ship down on to earth in a county known as Ginnington County, Colorado. Soon, people get facehugged, and then the aliens begin to invade the woods. And then they get in the sewers. And finally they get into the suburban part of town, and then in the middle of town. And one predator from the home planet goes and saves the day.

First I'll tell you what I DID like:
-I loved the pacing of the story. It starts out in the woods and it slowly moves to the city in a respectable manner. That's why the movie starts off a bit slow, with short action scenes in between. It made it seem real, and how something like this could possible happen (yeah, right).
-I also recognized the score of the movie was similar to the music in Aliens, and same with the sound of the aliens when they get shot (that sort of high-pitched elephant-like sound). I thought that was neat and really brought back the tone of the second Alien movie (plus, the aliens look the same in it; the rigid head rather than the smooth head as seen in the other Alien movies).
-The pred-alien hybrid all grown up was possible the most intense creature I've seen in all the alien movies. I read somewhere that it's supposedly a queen also, as its head is sort of shaped like the queen's, and that the soldier aliens attack when its in trouble and that it "tells" the soldier aliens to back off and stuff with a lout hiss. But man, when you see this movie, it just gets crazier and crazier with the things she does. It's a whole new breed of alien.
-There IS gore. Not too much, but more than the first AVP, and that's what makes a horror movie good. You need something to "Oooooooh!" at! The most gore we had in AVP was when one of the predators sliced a guys face (off screen, might I add) and we see blood spray on the snow.
-The pred-alien hybrid was badass. That's all I have to say. Possible the best alien creature ever created.

Now to the dislikes:
-The acting....My, my, if you're gonna watch this movie to feel sorry for the characters, there are only a few that you might have at least sympathy for, and they barely have any lines. Especially the pregnant ladies. Now I have to tell someone this so if you don't want to read this part, then cover your ears and close your eyes:

SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERS!!!!!!There is actually a part in the movie where there are pregnant women laying in their beds with the power out. One is about ready to have birth with no doctors around when the pred-alien comes in, puts its predator mandibles around her face, and impregnates her with, like, five chestbursters, and you can see them sliding down her throat. She does the same with the other pregnant ladies, and you actually see one get killed as they pop out! I seriously thought that they went a bit too far with that.

Okay, back....
-You can't see the aliens that well. There are too many camera movements, angles, and the camera moving by way too fast to actually tell what is going on most of the time. I thought I was gonna go dizzy while watching the action scenes. It gave the feeling of what the aliens were like (which also goes with bringing back stuff from Aliens) and trying to figure out how they acted when you can't see them. Sort of like a cat sitting in the dark waiting to pounce sort of thing.
-I HATED the way they dealt with what was going on. I'm not going to give any spoilers or anything. The only thing I want to say is: "PLEASE, SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! Especially the newborns! SERIOUSLY!"
-The predators, I'm not too much of a fan of. I'm more of an alien person, personally. I think they're better at moving faster and better, and they can hide better and be able to pounce from dark and small spaces, which makes things scarier. This predator had all this technology that I soon got sick of because he was blasting alien to alien and person to person. Though, I guess you have to have that in if it's one against a hundred. Literally.
-The ending wasn't too well either. It could have ended a whole lot better, though I don't know how. I'd rather have any other ending than the one they had for this one. No sireeee, uh uh.

Okay, I think that's it. All I have to say is that if you're going here to see a serious horror movie with serious actors and no comedy (yeah, there's comedy in this movie), along with super-duper long, intense alien vs. predator scenes and crazy amounts of gore, don't see this movie. I mean, it's good and all, but that's only if you want to have fun, you're a fan of both franchises, and you're with your friends (or brother, considering my case).

So I give this movie a thumbs up. I hope my review helped, and I tried keeping away from any spoilers (except for the one that bothered me MOST!) and I really recommend this movie to people who want to have fun with the aliens and predators.

And hopefully your theater speakers are louder than mine, because ours were quiet and didn't come close to bursting my eardrums (and this helps, especially during a horror movie with the whole jump-out-of-your-seat effect).

Merry Christmas,
Sean

I caught the movie on Christmas day after begging the wife to go see it.  I have to tell yeah I enjoyed maybe the first ten minutes of the movie, then after that I hated it.
Here is what I liked and disliked about the movie. (SOME SPOILERS)

Liked
1. Liked how they made the Aliens look like the Aliens from "Aliens" Ridged heads, warrior types.
2. Like how they made the Predator look like the Predators from movies 1 and 2.
3. Liked how they showed us a glimpse of the Predator homeworld.
4. Liked how they made it Rated R so we can actually see some gore.  Unlike Paul Andersons garbage from the first one.
5. Liked how they used the music, sound effects, Predator Visuals from the previous films.
6. Liked some of the actions scenes.

Dislikes
1. Hated the story.  On earth yet again.  I want future, I want space.  Earth is overdone unless you have the aliens totally infest the planet.

2.  Hated how the Predator destroyed the crashed space ship and nobody in Colorado even felt a tremor from the Predators Nuclear Destruct device.  I don't even think the trees shook.  Remember in Predator you see the nuclear mushroom cloud?

3.  Hated how the Predator was a supposed "Cleaner" cleaning up the mess with his blue liquid draino to hide any evidence they were there.  Yet he kills a cop, skins him and hangs him for everyone to find.

4.  Hated the whole teen story idea.  We get this in enough crappy campy horror movies.  A bunch of teens you know who are going to die..yatta yatta.  Overdone.  Felt like I was watching the OC or One Tree Hill.

5.  The Predalien hybrid.  It burst out of the Predator in the beginning and 5 minutes later it was a fully grown killing machine.  At the end of AVP 1, there were 100's of Predators onboard that ship.  They all died in the crash?  The ship was still intact when it crashed in Colorado.  Not good thinking this through.

6.  I hated how they made the Predalien able to procreate.  It throws up chestbursters into peoples mouths into their stomach?  Come on.  Why do this.  They should of just stayed with the queen idea and how they originally were meant to procreate. Queen, eggs, facehuggers, chestburster.

7.  Hated how they overdid the gore thing.  Yeah i'm all about gore, but when you have the Alien enter the maternity ward with a bunch of babies and pregnant mothers, you know it's not going to end good.  And they actually showed a mother who was about to give birth to a human child, have aliens thrown up down her throat and burst from her pregnant belly.  I was disgusted and I love gory stuff.  And they showed those rows of little babies and the Alien looking at them.  They give us the idea the alien is killing them.  Hated it.

8.  More Human vs Aliens then the Predator vs Aliens.  And when the two iconic monsters did fight it was so damn dark I didn't know what was going on.  Poor direction.  All i seen of the Predator was him running around pouring blue crap all over the place and shooting every once in awhile.

9.  I hated how they made it use the same type of people from previous movies.  You had a Ripley type tough woman, her daughter (like Newt).  You had a guy with the same freaking name (Dallas) from the first Alien movie.  You had the scene with the National Guard (Like Aliens) but they die in 8 minutes.  Then it's up to the teenagers, cop, the mom/daughter, and the convict brother try to escape.

Ok, ok, i'll stop.  I was so pumped for this movie, but it was a big let down.

After reading multiple reviews of critics bashing this movie, my expectations dropped a ton. I'm glad to say that I was surprised. This movie was everything the original was'nt and more. Sure it was cheesy, but I expected that. What matters is that it was fun! There was some pretty gory scenes and the predalien was cool as hell! I also liked how there was no big name actors. That meant anyone could die in any fashion! I give the movie two thumbs up!

Note: A spoiler exists here even though there's nothing to really spoil.

I haven't read any of the other reviews; so you're getting an unbiased opinion.

First, let me say that the last Alien movie, lifted me from my work and drew me in.  My husband had it on and I found it compelling.  I don't know the name-- it was the one where they were underneath the ice.  I loved the line: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Anyways, we went to see this new one tonight and I wasn't impressed at all.  My husband knows movies far better than I and I whole heartedly agreed with his words: "It was slapped together."

Indeed!  Now that's not to say that kids won't enjoy it because they're not so jaded as we are, but it hardly had any character development.  Well, truthfully, I didn't see any character development. (But wait-- I loved Godzilla versus King Kong when I was a little girl and I don't know if there was too much character development in that either).

So then, what happened in this movie?  Well, people were dying left right and center, but did I care?  No.  But here's the real kicker: This is actually funny because any of us professional amateurs who would dare to write an ending like what shows up in this movie would get laughed right out of town... Tee hee hee... How did they end it?  After killing off their undeveloped characters, they decided to live on the wild side and do this:

AND SO...  THEY BLEW UP THE TOWN.  THE END.  Really!  That's what they did!

Still, I love The Alien concept and I love The Predator.  They belong in "The Great Big Book of Monsters."  Is there such a thing?  Well, there should be.

A known mistake is better than an unknown truth.
