This movie doesn't seem to be getting too much attention, since I've only seen one commercial for it and not a lot of talk for it. But I read the synopsis for it and I thought it sounded pretty interesting.

So basically, The Signal is about radios, cell phones, and TVs (and possibly any other communication or media device out there) transmitting a signal that alters the way people think and causes them to go insane and kill one another. A woman tries to get to a train station and meet up with this guy she's having an affair with while her husband (who's crazy--or infected) is after her.

The beginning starts off with what looks like a low-budget, terrible horror flick about two girls trapped in an old, beat-down house with a killer outside..or something. I don't know, I got in the theater a few minutes late right when the title came up (which was like an 80s Grindhouse way to start a low-budget, terrible horror flick). My friend and I were confused about it, and we were like, "Is this the movie?" and I was really hoping it wasn't because it was all blurry and stupid. But then the screen starts messing up and freezing and going whacko on us, and finally the signal comes on (which is pretty trippy and could be a cause of epilepsy, so BE WARNED! He he). But I thought that was really cool. And that's how the movie begins.

I read on IMDB that it was written by three different people and directed by three different people, which, when--if--you see this, is why there are three parts, or three "transmission," which I thought was pretty cool. And each "transmission" was sort of like a different genre...sort of. The first transmission was your typical horror/suspense, then the second transmission was a dark comedy. I think the second part was possibly my favorite because it was just really weird and funny--but weird. The third transmission went back to horror...sort of..I don't know, more possibly drama.

The good thing about the first transmission, though, was that it showed how it all unfolded. This lady walks into her apartment and there are people arguing with each other and people following her. Then her husband beats someone up so she runs out. And that's when you see people cutting peoples' necks open with hedge trimmers, or people trying to smother or choke others, and it comes to the point where you don't know who's crazy and who isn't.

The acting was actually good, except I didn't like Lewis (the husband) or his black friend because their voices were just really annoying. The gore was great, especially during the second transmission, and there may be a lot of parts were you get confused, but it all makes sense at the end, which is a good ending too.

So yeh, a fun horror film if you like people attacking each other and acid trip signals coming in through TVs and radios and phones.

Have never heard of this, am guessing it's indie ? Sounds a bit like King's CELL, or a little horror thriller from the 84 called Impulse. Will keep a lookout for this.

13 feature scripts, 2 short subjects. One sale, 4 options. Nothing filmed. Damn.

Currently rewriting another writer's SciFi script for an indie producer in L.A.

It actually came out in theaters, but not major ones like Cinemark or AMC. I had to drive a bit further to see this one at a Reagal theater. But it was worth the $6.50 because I enjoyed it.

Some people say it's a rip-off of cell, and others are trying to defend it saying that they started filming when Stephen King's CELL book came out, and people don't believe that, even though, if they started filming it when the book came out, then the script was written while the book was being written, so there's more of a chance that it was just pure coincidence.

And that was one long sentence.

I saw this Saturday. I liked the first transmission though it was a bit typical then came  Trasmission II & III. I've never been so confused. I didn't know what the hell was going on for most of it (Then again I'm a bit slow sometimes) but it was really strange and a bit Artsy. There were some really funny parts in the second Transmission. Why when the guy beat Lewis  to Death with the poison capsule did he get back up? I got this when it happened to a previous character because it was in his mind because of the signal but all the characters reacted to Lewis as if he was actually there. Why didn't he die? This movie made me feel like I was under the influence of some heavy duty drugs at times. But I guess that was it's intention. I'll have to go see it again and read the article in Fangoria over again.

The budget for this film was only $50,000. Pretty impressive.
