Absolutely not, the effects were god awful. Like I said, I'm just a Guy Peirce fanboy. It was fun seeing him play a character that he typically doesn't play. And it seemed like he was having a blast with it. He really had some awesome one liners in this thing. "Here's an apple and a shotgun. Don't talk to strangers... Shoot them." Hahaha golden.
Hard to defend this one, to be fair. But I'd definitely prefer churning out this rubbish whilst getting paid, rather than criticising it on here for free!
Terrible film but it entertained me on a Sunday morning hangover whilst munching Doritos with the girlfriend. Pretty sure it was built for that purpose entirely.
I didn't mind Pearce in the film, but he and the other actors were not directed well and the final script (one of the scribes was Besson, who also produced, most likely the last fingers on ihe page. Robert Kamen is nowhere to be found)
It is one of the worst films of 2012. The film steals from Carpenter's films as mentioned, but also a little from the Fortress films that starred Christopher Lambert. But that's the least of Lockout's problems.
For sure...easily. I'd go so far as to say easily one of the worst theatrically released movies of the 2000's.
Haha give 'em a little credit!
White Chicks, Gooby, The Covenant, The Hottie and the Nottie, Catwoman, Glitter, Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead and anything else Boll got in theatres, Battlefield Earth, all of Friedberg and Selzer's (sp?) stuff, Norbit and Big Momma's House 2 and whatever other samboism that's been thrown at us the last decade, That's My Boy, The Spirit, All About Steve...
And I haven't even mentioned the Wayans (EDIT: Oh wait...yes I did...right off the bat), Larry the Cable Guy, Kevin James, Mike Myers, Jamie Kennedy...or the source of my avatar, the good Ms. Duff!
Yeah, Chris, those are all mostly terrible theatrically released films.
And, get this, I paid to see Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead in the theater, and you just reminded me how much I hated and still hate House of the Dead...very annoying to say the least.
But, when I say 1 of the worst, in its genre, it's pure crap. Battlefield Earth is epically horrible, and you're right, was released in 2000.
Maybe I have a 100 or so worst of the 2000's.
It's a good idea for a thread...list your worst of the 2000's, and see what other rancid turds float to the surface...
Yeah, this was pretty pathetic in its own special way. Some of the one-liners totally read like they were written by a foreigner who hasn't been in touch with Western culture since the early 90s. I also thought only in a Luc Besson action movie would a deranged prisoner get to have his way with the president's 20-something daughter and not try to do anything remotely sexual. Guy Pearce did a decent job, I suppose, but his character was "action hero" by numbers at best.
There were times I found it fun to watch the flick try so desperately to be cool only to fall flat on its face but with something so derivative and generic, that morbid interest wears off quick. So yeah... not good.
Gotta admit, Brett, as much as I wanted to hate Doomsday, I didn't. I can't say I enjoyed it, though, because it's never crossed my mind to watch it again.
P.S.: It's 11:14.
You're right, pal. Doomsday is a masterpiece compared to LockOut. But I still found it to be offensively derivative and bereft of a fresh spin. Homages work better when embedded into a story, not just pranced about the screen.
