I was curious to know how long a film script takes for all of you. Just so I can get a basic idea on how long I should be spending etc. For example the script I’m writing “The Connection” I’ve spent a week or two on and now currently on page 31 and right now I’m taking a week off for a rest to jot down some ideas.

I know these things shouldn’t be rushed but just as the start says, how long does drafts take for each of you? (Weaver it might be 90 pages, 100 page and so forth).

31 pages in a week or two sounds about right for me. It usually takes me a month (if I'm properly motivated) But a screenplay hasn't taken me more than 3 months since I wrote my first one. But it's usually one month or a little more if I feel like being lazy.

"Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd" - George Carlin
"I have to sign before you shoot me?" - Navin Johnson
"It'll take time to restore chaos" - George W. Bush
"Harry, I love you!" - Ben Affleck
"What are you looking at, sugar t*ts?" - The man without a face
"Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death." - Exodus 31:15
"No one ever expects The Spanish Inquisition!" - The Spanish Inquisition
"Matt Damon" - Matt Damon

More than a month if you feel a little lazy!!!

Oh dear,it doesn't look good for me then does it.  Although I've wrote a couple of shorts last year, I started a feature in January 06 and I aint finished it yet!  Only on page 80 but I've done a lot of note making and know where I'm going, it's just putting down.

Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.

I usually take forever.

I've gotten to page 39 on a feature I started on in the spring, page 65 on a feature I started in August.

I work in waves. When I get a good idea I work, but I don't write just to write.

Like you have already stated, it takes as long as it takes to write a screenplay.  It depends on the complexity of the story and how the writer works.

One thing I do suggest is that you don't stop writing.  I've learned that breaks I thought would clear my head only brought procrastination, which caused me to take twice as long on completing a script.  Get the story down on paper, take a well deserved break, then jump back into the rewrites.

You will be more productive and receive better results this way.

Stevieboy it is imperative for you to know that, in writing unless you are trying to meet a deadline it really does not matter how long you spend on a script. A lot of us guys on here are fast writers, others are not. But plan your work, outline it, do the treatment, all this will help you keep a great flow and pace to your work and will also keep the nature of dramatic structure.
