In the script I'm polishing, I have a character that has an alter ego. In regard's to his dialogue name, I wanted to refer to him by his "superhero" moniker any time his hood is on, and his normal name whenever he takes it off or is plain clothes.

Is this a judgement call and if so, would it work for you and help you remember what role he's assuming, or would it just be distracting?

Thanks

Use the superhero name and the civilian name when using characters like this.  It's easier to read.

I good number of my stuff gets deleted.  I'm used to it.

In regards to naming characters with alter-ego, look at it this way.  Would it be good to write that Clark Kent walks through a barrage of bullets, unharmed?

This can go either way, depending on the situation.

If it's a Clark Kent/Superman scenario, I'd do as Phil layed out.

I had a script one time though where the character was in costume, but had a mask that he would flip up to reveal his face and the characters even referred to him by his real name, Nelson.

I chose to keep his name as Dark Master in all the dialogue and descriptions.
