So let me preface this by saying that I'm cheap, plus I'm one of the millions in the US now that has a pretty decent job yet I'm treading water what with the salary freezes and cutbacks, etc.  So much so that I do not own a laptop. So saying "get Final Draft" won't help me...

I used P2S for my feature, and to be honest, I like it better than Celtx for a feature, except it has one big drawback - no cover page.  You have to essentially create one and then page return all the way down to start your script, and then the pagination is off...

I like Celtx for the shorts I've done, and of course it has the cover page option, however I don't like the fact that it defaults to triple spacing between scenes (I need all the space I can get for my features)...

My question is - is there a way to convert or import between these two programs?  Or is there another way to do a cover page in P2S?

Don't know the programs myself but you can usually export and import various formats. Saving them as rich text such preserve most, if not all, the formatting. Should be possible.

Hopefully someone familiar with both can advise you better than I AJ.

Better than Celtix but not by much... To be honest both are about as useful as cup holders on a roller coaster.   Use either at your own risk.  The thing I really didn't like about page 2 stage was the initial formating.  The title page, the int and location headers are static. You have little to no freedom while writing with it.  Celtix is just a disaster all together, but that's been overstated time and time again by me in multiple threads.  So, yeah... both applications blow the nut sacks of the homeless but if they are all you got... They are all ya got.

Baltis, when was the last time you used Celtx? It has had many updates and is a much better program than it once was. Oh yeah... and it's free.

Yeah, just let it be known that I'm not blowing the nut sacks of the homeless by choice...

I'm just a step up from that. They blow mine...

Yes, it has.

Count to 10.

And now, to the question at hand.

I have never managed to get Page2Stage to actually work - I've downloaded it two or three times, and nothing ever seemed to actually happen! So I couldn't tell you if it is better or worse than Celtx.

(However, I do remember it's creator got very unpleasant on a forum once where someone questioned the quality of his product!)

Adobe has just brought out a new - and for the time being free - screenwriting software, but it is apparently very buggy.

It's funny actually, because I was going to revive a Celtx thread because I wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard of a system called Cinergy Script Editor. This is from a company called Mindstar. I keep coming across mentions of it - but all are years out of date, and the system itself seems to even pre-date Vista, so I couldn't try it out even if I wanted to.

But I read somewhere that it was really good - so I wondered why it never caught on, and seems to just have died a quiet death.

I am a bit surprised that FD or one of the other biggies don't release a free version, something based on an oldie, as it would serve to promote themselves. It seems to me that charging for anything in this day and age on the net is a bit retrogressive. Mind you, some companies still think people will pay for browsers!

One of the reasons Celtx has risen so quickly to prominence, whatever your opinion of it, is because there is, basically, no opposition. It's an open field at the moment.

Came across this - the download is free, but you pay for a code to activate print and export features.

The price for this activation code - £35!!!

It's been developed in the UK with British writers in mind.

Anyone given it a try? I may have a look myself over the holidays.
