The categories are either produced spec scripts or ss member scripts.

So far the list:

Black Swan (no online spec script)
Buried (no online spec script)
Frozen (no online spec script)
127 Hours (no online spec script)
Alien
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Inception(no online spec script)
Sunflower (no online spec script)
Passengers (no online spec script)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Zombie Playground
The Killer Shrews (no online spec  script)
Black Devil Doll (no online spec script)
Jonah Hex (no online spec script)
The Farm

Any other suggestions?  Any SS member scripts?

Also if you know there isn't a spec script available for a script mentioned above please let us know.

When we have enough of a list I'll set up a poll and whatever script wins the poll is the script we'll do.  In the case of a tie, Pia will decide.

REMEMBER:  This thread isn't about discussing whether the script is the right script for script club, it's just to suggest scripts.  You can discuss your choices in the poll thread which will happen once we have a list.

I will toss out 2 good, pro specs.  Won't hurt my feelings if nobody is interested:

Sunflower:  Low Budget, small cast.  A crazy guy keeps girls locked in his house and tries to have a "normal" family.  Particularly interesting during the early going in this script is the relationship between the "old" wife and the "new" one he brings in.

Passengers:  Big budget, small cast.  A guy wakes up by accident on a spaceship transporting the last of humanity to a new world.  So he is, like, hundreds of years too early.  It is a life sentence of solitude.  Over time he falls in love with a sleeping girl and wakes her up, too, but dooms her to the same fate.

While not everybody likes the same thing, I can vouch that neither of these "suck".

But don't add them to the list, Corney, unless there is interest.  I just think they might raise interesting discussions.

---------------------------

[edit]  Crap, Cornetto, I just realized these are not even in the categories you proposed haha. Sorry.  I will let the suggestions hang, but realize now they are dark horses.

I nominate Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind if only for the sake that Charlie Kaufman is a virtuoso screenwriter.

However what prompted me to nominate it was the behind the scenes doc I saw recently. Apparently, the script is loaded with scenarios the filmmakers assumed would require special FX but were all accomplished either on set or through basic editing. I think it's a good example of how a script can be written without so many reigns and still be produced practically and in a budget conscious manner. With all this talk of what you can't do, I think it'd be worth looking into.

What about Brett's Zombie Playground?

For a Produced script, I suggest "The Killer Shrews", and while reading the script, each member must wear a piece of shag carpet on their heads, like the dogs in the movie were forced to wear to make them resemble giant shrews.

We need to be seriously cautious and avoid using a script that's not posted somewhere online. We don't want Don or any of us getting sued for making "unavailable" scripts available....

I'd do Black Swan, but I won't be able to see the movie until Tuesday night at the earliest.

What about the remake of Black Devil Doll?

Black Devil Doll...     That would be awesome!!!  It's in my Netflix que and is supposed to be HILARIOUSLY HORRIBLE!!!!  The original is a classic.  There's a scene that runs like 20 minutes at a disco...during the day, and it's packed!  And it's all dancing...  YES!!

On a serious note...

Frozen isn't a bad idea.  I know Pia really liked the script, while I found it very bad.  But, it made a decent little movie that was definitely entertaining, on a low budget basis, and the DVD has some great special features that tells alot.

But, I also think giving Brett's script the Script Club treatment may actually really help him and you never know...he could be our lead in into serious movie making.  He does alot in the short time he's been here, and a bunch of eyes and different mindsets could help push this thing over the edge.

Or...

What about Pia's project Finders Keepers?  Maybe we could all help her before she actually gets back to filming?

Don posted Inception a while back: http://www.simplyscripts.com/2011/01/10/inception-screenplay-for-your-consideration/

You need to accept the agreement but it's there.

It's not a spec script, however.  Spec scripts only please.  Analyzing shooting or production scripts don't really do all that much for us as a group.

How about a 126 page spec from a writer/director team that got fired?
The studio replaced them as directors and did an on-set rewrite and re-shoot.
A 126 script turned into a 79 minute movie with a replacement director.

Would that be a little too whacky for the club?
If not, then I nominate the original spec script for Jonah Hex.

And for a SS script, I'd love to get into, The Farm.
Love that script! I so want to see it grow.

E.D.

Ok did some searches using advanced search and this is what I came up with.

Black Swan (no online spec script)
Buried (no online spec script)
Frozen (no online spec script)
127 Hours (no online spec script)
Alien
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Inception(no online spec script)
Sunflower (no online spec script)
Passengers (no online spec script)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Zombie Playground
The Killer Shrews (no online spec  script)
Black Devil Doll (no online spec script)
Jonah Hex (no online spec script)
The Farm

If you know differently then point me to it and I'll remove the no online spec script tag.  Thanks.

I'm fine with the list as is.  If anyone finds a link to an online spec script where I've said there is no online spec script then I will change it.  If you care a script makes the poll and it currently says no online spec script then find me the link.

Here's the list again

I would've loved to Jeff, but I brought on a second writer and I don't think he would want it posted here and torn apart...  It could use some help though. I'm rewriting it during the summer.

OK, Pia.  Just thought maybe we all could help this thing take on new life.  I totally understand...(is it the same "writer" who helped out with Roach Motel? - If so, I agree, he wouldn't probably want what we'd give him).     You know I mean that with no ill will...

I'll second The Farm. I haven't read it since I first joined the boards. I'd love to see how it's progressed and lend a hand to see it progress further.

I'll also second Finders, Keepers for that miniscule chance that we would get to read it.

Has anyone seen Winter's Bone?  This is a version of the script written just before it was shot, I believe.

http://www.mypdfscripts.com/screenplays/winters-bone

It's interesting because this version(written by the two women who directed the film) is only 73 pages long.  It's a very simple story, bluntly told, but with power.  Just skimming through it, it has all kinds of stuff people on SS might criticize(passive tense, etc).  And the movie does have parts that do not appear in this script.

But it is an adaptation of a novel, which I haven't read.  If that makes a difference to anyone.

Here's the top 250 downloaded scripts from the My PDF Scripts site.

http://www.mypdfscripts.com/indexes/top-250-script-downloads

In there, you'll find non-shooting drafts of Black Swan & 127 Hours.

Keep in mind, that most of the Warner Brothers scripts have been pulled down.
However, some remain, like Jonah Hex, cuz no one cares.

James, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but like I said earlier, I doubt my co-writer would want it up here for discussion and torn apart. He's more sensitive to criticism than I am.

Maybe it's not really the criticism, but it can throw a person off "their game" if they get too much input? Like input overload?

Maybe you're right Sandra. I posted the first draft here. Got lots of input. Rewrote it, sent it to script readers and got a "consider". Brought on a second writer. We rewrote it several times. I sent it to scriptreaders and got a "pass"...

Not my friend's fault, Jeff.

I get worse and worse with rewrites because I get extremely bored with it. I haven't read it in a few months now and I'm going to rewrite again before we shoot it so it's time for me to pick it up again soon, but right now I can't. I'm in a slump and can't seem to get over it. Can't even come up with a lousy 1 pager for MP this month.
