I think you meant this one to be historically accurate. The problem is it's far from authentic. If you want to be taken seriously as a writer, you have to put in the time needed to produce something that sounds like the period.
'Cut to,the chase' did not exist as a phrase in 1863. If you want us to believe you know about the civil war, you have to go to,the trouble of learning the title and ranks of artillery units. You have to go to the trouble to learn that replacement non-officers were almost never interviewed by commanding generals. There would be no need.
There are other problems, but there is no reason to go further until you do the research needed for a period piece.
Excellent advice, Richard. Research is easier now than it's ever been. No more spending hours upon hours trawling libraries. Then having to study there and take notes as the book must stay on the premises.
