I had this idea after I read a story online. It's a documented true story but it was documented in 1727-1729. Is there going to be a problem with that?

Not from 1727, there wouldn't be. With true stories, it all depends on how you handle it. If you use a true story as an inspiration for fiction, then it doesn't matter. If you want to tell someone's true story, you generally have to get rights to do so from that person.

In this case, you're writing a historical drama/comedy/etc.  Getting permission probably wouldn't be necessary (or possible).

It's more of a dramatization but with real names and places. I just wasn't sure.
