Obviously I am, as most people here are, into writing. Recently however, I've been really focusing on short stories. It's one of the reasons I haven't been around here too much--I'm not writing any scripts. (Well, that and this strange phenomena where my life gets busier with each passing day.)
Anyway, the point is, I was wondering if any of you all were into short stories. Writing them, reading them, downloading printing grinding up and snorting them, you know, whatever. There are some great writers/readers on this site, and I've always valued this community, and sort of miss having stuff to offer.
So I was thinking that if any of you guys write the occasional short story, you could let me know, and maybe we could do a little trade off?

Yes. I had one published in a small town magazine once. It's half short story and half personal essay I guess. Might post it here one day.
Love short pieces with style. Love one particular short of Ray Bradbury's, but I can't remember the name. Only the lasting impression.
Let me know. I'm still way behind and what's on my "to do" and "my done" is at odds, but give me a shout. I'm open.
Yeah, I've been focusing on short stories as well; but I'm still working on scripts too.
But same here, really -- life gets busy -- I no longer have the total freedom I used to have, and it's been tough having to balance my new life's schedule with my writing. I wish I could go back to the HS days...
But it's all good. I love writing, period. Lately, I've been into short stories because of the viable (and infinitely more reachable than screenwriting) magazine/e-zine markets out there; plus my overwhelming love for short Barker fiction.
My only problem is writing short enough stories. I have this short story that I'm really into right now, but it is over 8000 words long and most 'zines simply won't publish or even consider stuff near novellete length. There's Glimmer Train, I guess, but they don't usually publish my kind of stuff.
I'm trying to discipline myself to write short stories that are actually short for the moment (5000 words or less) but it's proven more difficult than I thought, even with an outline. I look at the word-count once, thinking I've barely hit 2000, and it turns out I've written well-over 5000. And every time I try to edit it, I feel like I'm weakening the prose.
Tyler, I LOVE short stories. I love reading them and I love writing them. I'm just not very good at prose and don't need an exchange, but if you need a read, never hesitate to send me something.
The interesting thing I like about crossing over in styles of writing is that they feel so completely different. It's like an entirely different world.
Anyone who has worked for awhile in screenwriting and shifted back to short story or novel forms understand this. I think it's beneficial to do this if you're so inclined. Not everyone is, but I find it helps me and that's why I enjoy screenwriting. It does something very unique comparatively.
