The alternative is to submit your screenplay as a PDF file, which is pretty easy to do with the right FREE software.

Many of us (cheap bastards) use it.
It works fine.

Down load it.
Learn proper spec screenplay formatting.
Save yourself a lot of wasted time fabricating some uncle-daddy-inbred monstrosity.
And then save yourself a lot of wasted time listening to us b!tch about it.

It's no big whup.

Then follow the guide below.
Read the attached PDF (made with celtx).
Keep yourself out of basic trouble.
Get useful feedback.

Pdf is free too if it's not an abnormally huge file. I used to convert some of my shorts from doc. to pdf when I was in a midst of switching computers and lost my final draft. Free, no hassle, easy...

Back in the day, Alffy told me about PrimoPDF. Never had a problem with that in a year and a half. It's also free and works in conjunction with Final Draft if you use that over CeltX.

Of course, while a screenplay format editor may be nice, it does NOT teach you anything about how to format. That's the point of it doing it for you, right? So you don't have to really learn it? I actually have Final Draft, and guess what? You still have to know how to format to use it. All it does is remove a little bit of tabbing here and there, but that's replaced by having to select what you're doing at the time. Honestly, I think formatting software just exchanges one piece of work for another. I write pretty much all of my scripts in Word and convert them using either PrimoPDF or Adobe Acrobat Pro. Don't let a program take the place of actually learning your craft. Spit out a perfectly formatted script in Word, and then you'll be ready to let something else do it for you.

You can just simply get a converter and change the DOC file into PDF.

And save yourself the energy and time reading all this.

Being an affirmed neo-Luddite, I've never learned how to drive stick-shift, manual transmission because... automatic transmissions work just fine.
Celtx kills two birds with one stone: Format + PDF capabilities.
It's a tool for beginners.
The beginners are not learning format before they submit here. Repeatedly.
With this they can concentrate on story construct and dialog.
