I'm as new as they come. Music use to be my passion. I wrote stories in my music. Day in and day out music was all I use to do. I ended up building my own studio in Baltimore, and recording artist for money. After a while, I got together with some like minded people, and we formed a group. We ended up being really good and started performing all over the city. It was great, but how most groups are, we stopped being able to communicate. So we ended up splitting up. I'm partially to blame for the split. Reason being, something changed in me. I began to feel like the music just wasn't giving me the same feeling I once had. I began to close the studio, not be there at certain time's, and losing the love I once had.
After a while I became lost and got involved in some bad things. Clarity struck when I took sometime to reflect on my life. I didn't grow up in the best household for a child. We moved a lot and I got picked on for always being the new kid. This lead to me staying home a lot. As a kid, most of the time my only friend was the tv. The tv gave me a way to escape my reality. I remember I would have issues sleeping, and my Mom would say "put on a movie and stop thinking about it"
Then, I realized I'm in the same exact place again. In my room, thinking, and watching a move. I never though about how movies get there story. I guess I was always trapped in the fantasy that movies offered. Then, I found out about screenplays, and fell in love. I began buying any thing I could on the subject and teaching myself the format. A couple years later, I found SS, and here I am.
Thank you guys for allowing me to be apart of SS it means a lot to me.
What i find is that everyone around here is different. Very different. And that's good.
If you like stories, and this medium works for you, then SS is the best place.
My tips would be;
1] use the portal button
2] don't be afraid to learn
3] as you learn, don't be afraid to question
4] above, us this amazing resource
enjoy

I too have always been passionate about music...and movies. I've also always enjoyed writing, so screenwriting was something I'm so glad I jumped into.
Everyone is here to help and everyone started right where you did...with little to no clue what they were doing. Put your time in and never give up. You'll look back on this a few years from now and be literally amazed how far you've come.
Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm really looking forward to a bright future here. Since my first post lol, I can not stop posting stuff. I'm addicted to SS haha.
Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have a lot to share. Study hard, relearn basic grammar, or just learn it. Read lots of well written screenplays and mimic the styles until you find your own. Don't be afraid to experiment. Be prepared to have to wait a long time before you make it. There are a lot of good writers out there all trying to make it too. Just like in music, you have to stand out above the rest.
