I've always liked Arnold Schwarzenegger...I really have, but pretty much everything he's done in the last 5/6 years has sucked pretty badly. Sadly, this is no exception.
Based on true events, this adaptation is slow, dull, unbelievable, and ends up very hamfisted and downright laughable.
Arnold sure tries to show a different side, but to me, his acting chops just can't handle it, and the movie's execution sure doesn't help.
So many scenes that shouldn't have been included...probably shouldn't even have been written or filmed. Do we really want or need to see a nude 70 year old Arnie in the shower? Oh man...please.
Probably the biggest issue here is that the event took place in Germany, but here, the locale is Columbus, OH, of all places, and it just doesn't work or make much sense.
Then again, most of the details here make no sense and I continuously had to laugh out loud as the "plot" unwinded. I kept waiting for some form of action, some excitement, some intensity, but it never came to be, and the final "twist" was so obvious, my girlfriend and I both called it before it was revealed.
Finally, Arnold just looks so different now. At times, he resembles a larger Tommy Lee Jones, and that's never going to be meant as a compliment.
Sadly, I see no reason at all to sit through this sleep inducing misfire.
