SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  JonnyBoy's back - hello to those i don't know!

Hi all,

Apologies for the self-centred thread, just thought this might speed things up a bit.

My name's Jon, I joined the boards six years ago next month, but a quick look at my 'latest posts' tells me I've been away from SS since April 2012 (wowzah). I was a pretty active member back in the day (though reading my old posts back makes me cringe with embarassment) - I'm resurfacing now, no idea if it'll take again but want to give it a try.

A quick bit about me: I'm 25, I live in London, and my current job is doing marketing for a theatre publisher (we publish play scripts as they're performed in a theatre, as well as books on acting, directing, writing, all sorts). The last film I saw in the cinema was Boyhood - which I loved - but I'm also partial to a good blockbuster. For the last couple of years I adapted and directed a few plays here in London, but I'd like to give screenwriting another crack.

If you want to get a sense of me as a writer:

- this was the last finished thing I wrote - a short called The Marry, back in November 2011 (that's embarassing): http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1320456538/
- this is a OWC entry Michael Cornetto (has Michael left?) shot as part of his machina series The Dark, called It Gazes Back: http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-feb10/m-1266204432/s-0/
- this is a short that was optioned and shot (with changes and a new title) by a company in Australia, and was selected for a few festivals across Europe; the original title was Colliteral Damage: http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1276044547/

There are probably others knocking around. Oh, and small claim to fame: I organised the first ever Six Week Challenge back in 2009. Do you guys still do those?

Some of you I know - a glance at the portal tells me Phil, Jeff, Pia, Bert, Rick, Ghost, Col, Libby, Stevie, Don (obviously) and I'm sure lots of others are still here. How's it going, folks?! (Some of you I have on Facebook, so I'm dimmly aware of your ongoing existences.)

But if I don't know you, introduce yourselves! Please. To spare me the awkward part where I don't know anyone after two years and so just stand by the punchbowl, too shy to make conversation.

It's good to be back! And for those who've been around a while: one final question - did we ever get to read Frost Bite?

EDIT: After years of trying to get the production company to upload the film of Colliteral Damage (or Finding Eric, as it became), I see a month ago they finally posted it on Vimeo. It's a sign! (Disclaimer: I don't like their ending. And not just cos it's not what I wrote. But overall I'm happy with how it came out.)

Finding Eric from Red Bandit Productions on Vimeo.

JonnyBoy,

Welcome back,

It's been too long.  Good to see you didn't drop off the face of the earth, but just our radar.   Hopefully -- you get back into the swing of things.

Hey Johnny,

Good to see you back. I had a long hiatus away as well, but am hoping to be back in force.

Don't think we ever got to read Frost Bite!!!!

Hi both! How've things been? (Both personally and here at SS).

I'm of the firm belief that Frost Bite never existed. It was only ever a myth.

Hi Jonny, welcome back.

I remember commenting on your short that got filmed - nice work.

You going to throw your hat into the OWC ring? Starts friday night. Gonna get messy.

I'm terrible at introductions so I'll take the easy road and copy paste a link to my original SS intro:

Took a quick look at The Marry, despite being 21 pages, it was a breeze of a read. Look forward to seeing you around.

Hey Jon barely remember you, man.  I been a member for years too -- on and off, with different usernames.

I do remember Baltis and Frost Bite.  I always wanted to read that script.  I heard it was scary as shit.

JB, good to see you back! I thought I saw you sneak in yesterday.  ;)

To answer a couple of your questions:

The six week challenge is still happening - 1+6 - just had one back in April.

'Frostbite'? No, sadly. Balt's been absent for a while, still at it apparently - the screenwriting, I mean...

Anyway, great to have you back.
Just in time for the OWC too.   ;D
