Criteria Met (Y/N) Overall (1-10) Story (1-5) Characters (1-5) Dialogue (1-5) Writing (1-5)
Seeing this, I'm glad I did not enter. I hate scoring like this, to be honest. Most seem to like it, though, so as usual, I'm alone on my island or mountaintop.
I will be reading and commenting on all, but not scoring.
A nice turnout! Just read and reviewed the first one but I'm out most of today. I will attempt to get through them all it may take me a few days though.
I like the idea of the new scoring system - the only downer is that first script I read had no dialogue. It feels a bit...unfair not being able to award potentially 5 points simply because the writer chose not to include dialogue! Writing without dialogue is tricky and requires skill but here it means less points!
As Anthony stated, if a script has no dialogue, grade according to how effective you think it is without it. If no dialogue really makes the script stand out, give it a 5. If you wish there was just one line in there somewhere, give it a 4. If you feel no dialogue hurts the script, grade lower.
Meant to add: Yes, you can review your own script (or not) to deflect guesses, but make sure you're clever and subtle about it.
I done that in the past.I was both clever and subtle. It still backfired, as I pointed out some of my errors, and my attempt at subtext.
So what happened?
Ha! All the comments after pointed out the same stuff, having been unaware of it until I pointed it out Happened at least three times. After that, I just put a lid on it and only commented on my work until after the reveals. Imean. y'know, what are you going to say reviewing yourself? Right! We are tempted to give ourselves delusions of grandeur! Which,of course, gives the farm away.
So y'know the old saying. Looseth lips sinketh ships

I just go the modest route. Something like:
A perfect blending of Sorkin and Taritino. How is this writer expecting a crappy mug when an Oscar should be in order.
Me thinks that you can almost say anything and not be revealed other than when you respond to issues raised by other reviewers.

EXACTLY! If you really like what you wrote, and you wrote it well, go all in...or at least point out an issue that is AMAZINGLY WELL DONE!!!.
If you hated what you wrote and you know it's terrible and embarrassing...TRASH IT! Trust me, I've done this to myself and I should have been much meaner.
If you comment on every script except your own, some peeps will actually know.
I can say with complete honesty that my entry will not receive a SINGLE NEGATIVE COMMENT...because...well...uh...I didn't enter one.
