Looks like another disappointing franchise rushed by money grubbing producers. Sometimes I get so caught up enjoying their films that I forget Lions Gate is still a Holywood studio.
all they care about is money and not making quality films. sure, the first one did tremedousley well considering it it had such a low budget but it was hardly a film that deserves a sequel. The plot for the first one was not thought out at all and was marketed and enjoyed only because of it's shock value. If you enjoyed the story you probably don't think about your plots too much or care to delve deeper than whats shown on screen. anyway, guess you can't stop it now if its already in the works, i for one wont be seeing it though
Hostel writer-director Eli Roth tells MTV that he's writing the sequel for three girls, something that producer Quentin Tarantino suggested. "They're studying in Italy for the summer, and they get lured, and they go back to ... well, we're going to go back to a lot of familiar places," Roth said.
Through the existence of this Italian hostel, Roth plans to reveal that the Slovakian stopover from the first film is actually part of a chain.
"It's all part of the organization; they've got the whole thing set up all over the place, and they have different scouts," Roth added. "We're going to learn a lot more about how it all works. In 'Hostel 2,' you're really going to see the ins and outs of the whole organization and how they get people and kill them."
Roth said that Jay Hernandez's character Paxton is part of the script and he'll be encountering the three girls in Italy.
"Jay has a few less fingers, so it might be difficult for him to blend in," the director said. "But yeah, he's not out of the woods yet."
Roth's script begins the moment the original Hostel left off. "'Hostel 2' is going to start literally with the next cut, and you're going to see [Paxton] at the same time. You'll see that he's totally messed-up from the experience. It's completely wrecked him, and his life is in ruins."-MTV.com

Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
Guys, anymore, when a horror movie is conceived... It's also conceived with 2 other attached behind it in rapid succession.
Hostel 2 and 3 were being thought up, just like Saw 2 and 3 were being thought up when they were filming Saw. Don't act like this is a "TREAT" these people are giving you... Friday the 13th part 5 was a "TREAT" as it was said, stated, and ran over with a truck a million times that part 4 was, is and will always be the last of the Friday the 13th movies... Now did you like 5? That's up to you, but it was still a "TREAT" from the studio cause it wasn't even conceived at the time of ending 4 or years later.
Hostel was a puddle of Pig piss... It's terrible. Saw 2 is the only recent movie I can think of that whips its ass in absurdity.
These movies aren't for anyone over 20. I firmly believe these movies are made for 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17 year olds to sneak into the theater and go back to school talkin' about them. They've brought nothing at all new to the genre. NOTHING!
Saw 2 was riddled with a slew of stolen deaths from other movies and an absurd plot line. Hostel was so basic and topical it made me wonder why this thing didn't just go to DVD.
Horror and Franchises are synonymous. Gonna have to deal with it.
It's all about the money, I truly believe that they don't make these for any artistic merit but rather like Baltis stated, to get all the younguns they possibly can into the theater to make the big bucks ^
You might say that kids sneaking into the movie doesn't help them because they purchased another ticket, well you're wrong, it is the word of mouth that these kids spread that makes them more buck.
It's all about the money, money, money! Which isn't really a bad thing but as far as advancing the art of the storyteller it does not serve so much.
With that said, I did like Hostel, but it wasn't gory or wonderfully scary, but I read some things into it (a little social comentary, if you will) and I view it as more of a set up to a franchise that will hopefully grow and get better.
A spoon does not know the taste of soup, nor a learned fool the taste of wisdom.
Horror and Franchises are synonymous. Gonna have to deal with it.
Most movies are like this now. Superman Returns hasn't come out yet and they're working on the sequels already. Word has it after a couple of Batman movies and Superman movies, there's supposed to be a team-up movie.
How's that for planning?
It's better than the studios do it this way than to shoot their load with the first one and then realize that sequels could generate money (a la 'Blair Witch Project' and 'Jaws').
Eli Roth recently talked to Production Weekly that he will begin production on Hostel 2 this September in Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and other locations around the Czech Republic. Some scenes will also be shot at Barrandov Studios, and other places, like Rome and possibly Slovakia.
Reiterating that the sequel would focus on three females, he added that it will be darker than the original. "The first 'Hostel' is a journey into hell that starts off fun," he said. "Part 2 is going to start off scary and stay creepy all the way through. I want it to feel like the movie is going to pick up on the next cut, as if you could watch the two movies back-to-back and it would be a three-hour movie. There will be some new things thrown in there but it has to look and feel like that movie.-cs

Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
I finally got around to watching Hostel last night and I must admit, for a late night shlock fest, it wasn't bad. I wasn't expecting an Oscar winning plot or story, so I got what I wanted.
Same with Cabin Fever, I got what I wanted. Can't argue against that.
So yeah, I'll probably end up watching Hostel 2 sometime in the future. I can't really scream and rage about the quality of recent movies when I know that all I'm expecting to watch is 90 minutes of shlock horror. Eli Roth is pretty good at it, not great, but pretty good.
Hostel felt very similar to Saw to me, so I guess that's why I liked it.
Will this sequal contain the "gratuitous" nudity that the first film did? Ofcourse, if it starts off "scary" like Roth said, it probably wouldn't, but since the main characters are woman...
