From a Green and Realist points of view human beings are raping the planet. Oil consumption an gas emissions, the airline industry ripping through the skys, ozone layers being reduced by the day, tankers spilling oil. Vast rain forests being felled and wars don't help either..
The scare over global warming is a fraud. Environmentalists make billions by scaring people. According to The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the global average surface temperature increased 0.6 degrees Celsius over the twentieth century.
Here are some facts:
1) Average global temperatures have not changed drastically over the last 4000 years. The planet is in a gradual warming trend due to what scientists (real scientists, not the quacks you usually see on TV) call the “Little Ice Age,” which ended in the 1800s.
2) The Arctic ice cap melting would not raise water levels significantly any more than ice melting in a glass of water. The ice cap is solid ice, not a land mass.
3) Computers are terrible at predicting global cooling or warming. Scientists say that computer models should be viewed with great skepticism.
4) Global warming statistics from doomsday sayers and scaremongers like Al Gore defy logic. Fossil-fuel burning cannot be responsible for global warming. Half the global warming of the twentieth century happened from 1900-1945. Were fossil-fuel burning responsible, there would be more global warming in the second half of the century. We burned an enormous amount more fuel during that period but yet the warming was significantly reduced by comparison.
5) Doomsday sayers are idiots. These are people who’ve been programmed to think with this mentality. Science doesn’t support it. The facts don’t support it. But environmentalists make a lot of money by scaring people. And religions aide them by scaring people into thinking the end is near. People have been crying about the end of the world since before the bible was written and they’ll be crying about it long after the bible has been proven full of sh*t.
People cried the end of the world was coming at Y2K. And do you want to know why? Because scaring people is big business. Activists scare people with some bogus impending catastrophe and then collect donations to fight the cause. Environmentalist groups lobby Congress aggressively and get federal funding to “study” these frightening “potential” disasters and then get laws passed to restrict land usage or create legislation for manufacturers. Then they tie up businesses with years of lawsuits. It’s cheaper for the businesses to pay off the lawyers than to fight in years of endless litigation.
That’s where all these fears really come from. Even with religion, look at the never-ending piles of money gained by the multi-billion dollar business of religion. All based on your fears of what might happen to you in the afterlife. If people stop being afraid of God, afraid of the devil, afraid of evil spirits, afraid of the unknown, then these scaremongers would lose billions.
Global warming is like most scare tactics from most environmental groups. In conjunction with lawyers (like former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards, for example), it’s a racket.
Hey tell me, won't we have caos soon?! Boring life!
If Brea is rigth the globe warming will increase something worrying at the year of 6006! Well, I'll be in my one hundred thirty four encarnation as worm!
While I do not doubt that the effects of Global Warming are sometimes exagerrated for the scare factor alone, I at the same time find it hard to believe that all of this CO2 emission is not causing some sort of problem to the enviroment. And from all accounts, Al Gore's documentary is actually quite good and for the most part, very honest. I've heard from both the left and right that "Truth" is quite the eye-opener (unlike, say, anything that's ever come out of Michael Moore's fat ass). All though, I do hope that Gore keeps his promise and never runs for president again, as it would seem he is better at getting things done out of office then in.
