Yay, a new Bourne film has officially been greenlit. No Paul Greengrass however but instead Tony Gilroy is stepping up to the plate. Not an awful choice, he wrote the previous screenplays and directed Michael Clayton, which I liked, a lot.
But one slight problem, just a small one, nothing huge....
There will also be no Jason Bourne.
Seriously, it is a Bourne film without the Bourne. Tony Gilroy says it is set in the Bourne Universe, but will feature a totally different hero.
So congratulations Hollywood, you have found brand new twist on the sequel/remake gravy train: a sequel that is not even a sequel.
Brilliant.
Be prepared for more coming your way in theatres near you...
*George Lucas must be kicking himself, he used to be the undisputed champion at milking yet even more money out of successful franchises. Guess he is so busy turning Star Wars into 3D that he took his eye off the ball.
Don't believe the hype Murph. You can bet yer ass Matt Damon and Greengrass will have some role.
They love to bullshit. Just like my parents and their friends. And er, me.
Spielberg and the others are also at the Remastering trick. It's like Their Greatest Hits.
We used to sell remasters of guys from the forties and fifties and they sucked. Because the original producer and engineer and artist were dead. Ended up binning them as they always came back and I'd tell punters "Buyer beware"
Bourne Trilogy is excellent. Not sure about this. Gilroy's done some good work. I'll wait till it hits the big screen. If it does.
Duh? Dude, that must be a fan made trailer, shooting has not even started yet...
Quoted Text
The Bourne Legacy, for openers, is simply taking the title from Robert Ludlum's book and "will not use the story," Gilroy says. "It's a completely original screenplay." Secondly, "This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project.
Sorry, I been using an iPad since my laptop blew up and some youtube vids do not work on iPad, yours above being one of 'em. I thought you were being serious. Just checked on Mrs Murphy's laptop.
I imagine what Gilroy intends to do is create a new Jason Bourne type identity. Universal is desperate for a hit, so anything goes to keep the franchise alive. I wouldn't be surprised if this movie is a tactic to try and lure Damon back. Either that or they believe after the Green Zone disaster, this is the best way to go.

LATEST NEWS CineVita Films is producing a short based on my new feature!
I actually thought this looked pretty good. I loved the Bourne trilogy, but to be completely honest, the worst part about the films were their director (Mr. Paul Greengrass aka Michael J Fox holding a camera in Tokyo). Renner's a solid action hero. He was absolutely dynamite in the latest Mission Impossible flick and deserves every bit of stardom.
Great trailer! I was on the fence about this and still am slightly but like Will said, Renner's a solid action hero. I think this could be really good based on the trailer but I've said that many times before and been disappointed so won’t get my hopes up.
