I wasn't really alive much in the 80's...   but I sure do remember the sounds of Bon Jovi. Blondie was cool too though . And ABBA was the 70's.

I don't know. I have a fondness for We Have All The Time I The World sung by Louis Armstrong for On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Goldeneye with Tina Turner is also a great one. I just listen to my disc with all of them and wnjoy the moments. They're all great songs...well The Man With The Golden Gun is a little odd...

As for the 80's, you left out Billy Joel and Oingo Boingo. Sorry, dude, they top everyone on your list. I lived through the 80's. I've never heard of Simply Red, but I've heard all the other ones. Still...Billy Joel and Oingo Boingo. Elton John also rocks, IMHO.

The Police beats all these guys.  And The Fixx.  And Asia (just the debut, though).

Ha-ha.

And since we're on Bond themes, Tom Jones' "Thunderball" and Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" tops my list.

I love the 80's! It's my favourite music and movie era! For me, songs like "Oh Yeah" by Yello, "Get out of my dreams, get into my car" by Billy Ocean and "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo are the best. They sort of define that decade for me

i was born in 79 so i was in grammer school throughout the 80's... it was about 3rd grade i started listening to rock....

Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, D@mn Yankees, Poison, Warrant... all the butt rock bands... you name it i listened to it...

then in Junior high i graduated to Metallica, Guns N Roses, Megadeth, Nirvana and all the Seattle bands....

thats pretty much what i listen to today.

Ha! Men Without Hats! Almost forgot about them. Thanks for reminding me, Breanne. Safety Dance rules. Ozzy and Priest rule as well. Also, it was in the 80's when metal (especially thrash metal) really started to get big, namely bands like Slayer, Anthrax, and as Hero mentioned, Metallica and Megadeth (all of which made up the Big Four of Thrash). Ozzy and Priest really paved the way for those guys. Perhaps they weren't the biggest part of the 80's music scene but I thought I'd give some names just the same.

I almost put Peter Gabriel on my list as well, but started thinking about how long his career has spanned, from his work with Genesis all the way through to today.  Shock the Monkey is still one of the creepiest videos I have ever seen.

Whose 80s is this? I was listening to Slayer and Metallica. Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood were my favorite albums back then.

I also loved The Rivers Edge because that film depicted my generation of teenagers better than any other 80's film. Sorry, but none of the artists you listed get my vote; which is a shame because I hear they all speak very highly of me. Lol.

I loved the Dead Kennedys when I was a teenager. I actually met Jello Biafra and had coffee with him once; he was a very approachable guy. I don't know if you've ever seen any concert footage of them, but if you haven't you should track some down. Jello is a fantastic performer, and the crowds used to go nuts slam dancing and stage diving etc. It's great to watch, would've been even better being there.

umm.... somebody forgot INXS, the best Australian band ever. Also, Never Tear Us Apart was featured on Donnie Darko, and the song got high in the charts in the US.

Tears For Fears (soem of theier songs are in the 80's), also featured in DOnnie Darko.

I do remember one or two performers some of you may have heard of:

Bat out of Hell was released in the 70s. I was into more alternative stuff in those days, but if I had to nominate a favourite mainstream band from the 80s; I'd nominate Queen.

Earth, Wind, and Fire was pretty good. I'm surprised that it hasn't gotten any votes so far.

I was into specific songs more than specific entertainers in the '80s.

I saw Judas Priest live in Long Beach around '82 or '83, and I wasn't even a Priest fan. (Had friends who were, however)

I met Joan Jett and Lita Ford, when they were with the Runaways, one night at KROQ radio station (circa '7.   They were just hanging out.  Smoking, talking, drinking, laughing.  Very cool.
One of my friends had a plan on how we could me the ladies, which included drummer Sandy West -- Cherie Curry was gone by then, pursing a solo career... and movies.

We had to bribe the DJ, Rodney Bingenheimer.  
Enroute to the Pasadena station, we stopped off in Little Tokyo and bought this Japanese Haga book dedicated to a very young Brooke Shields.
Rodney had this thing for 'young things.'
We delivered the book and he welcomed us with open arms.

Remember, the poll was only 11 choices, I know alot of 80s groups (seeing as I like the 80s music) but those 11 were just from the top of my head. o.o

I'm not sure if he's been said yet but I was big into Prince back in the 80's.  Purple Rain, 1999, Sign O' The Times, great stuff!

I also loved the Police, Def Leppard, Huey Lewis...God I'm such a dork.

I guess Michael, I'm not as familiar with the others.

Madonna's old work, I feel, is a little overrated.

I pretty much hated all the music back in the 80s - pop's never really meant anything to me, but on this list I would say that Earth, Wind and Fire sucks the least.

The big artists back in 80s all had too much hair and too much make-up for my taste. It was such a relief to me when Public Enemy entered the scene - to finally have something with actual substance.

I wasn't born until late in the 80's but I prefer 80's music to what harms my ears nowadays.

Bon Jovi are my all time favorite band (seen them live in June) but I also like Aerosmith, Billy Joel and Guns n Roses.
