Zombies on a Plane - a new killer game/exercise (currently 5630 views)

It's time for a new Killer Game and I figure this could be the idea behind it.
Eight of the most ruthless, sadistic and as yet unsuspected killers take a cross country flight on an Airbus A380, their tickets purchased by a mysterious third party named 'U'. One by one they are picked off, suffering gruesome deaths. Is one of them a master killer or is the master killer 'U'?
I can't lead this game so the first order of business will be someone to take charge of it. I will help when I can though.
But I thought I would put this out there. Anyone interested?
I know I'm weird, but I will never write anything with an Airbus in it unless it crashes or blows up.
Quoted from mcornetto
What makes you think it won't?
Yeah, Pia. Haven't you heard of The Logan Effect?
You could write the lead as the murderer in Killer and synchronize it with Thief. The killer on the plane might make a subtle reference, and he's/she's a stalwart enemy of Logan and his cohorts.
you guys carry on. SS'ers on a plane! must be good!
Most important thing to me is to keep us writing and working together.
There's a lot of transcendental power that's latent within any group that decides to work together for one goal.
We don't need individual brilliance because individually, we're just pieces. We need each other.
I see the work here going to another completely different level that is typical of collaboration efforts that run long term. The ideas turn, the characters are investigated... Everything is scrutinized and nothing is "not important". Even things cast away are important, but they might not be shown on screen in the end.
Actually, from an "action" standpoint, it makes more sense to use the A380 as it is larger than the B747. The characters will have more room to manouvre so to speak.
Down in the hole / Jesus tries to crack a smile / Beneath another shovel load

This is completely off topic, but Dave and I were in a sex shop and...
I was gravitating towards "the ticklers" and he was gravitating towards these humungous shlongs and I said,
"Haven't you learned anything yet? That it's not size that matters?"
Truth is, I think men normally think of size and power and that that equals performance in any venue.
As God as my witness, Gentlemen, it is not.
Women are questing for and asking for something so sublime that even they don't know what it is. Truth is, though, only a man has it and can give it-- whatever that something is.
This is my Simplyscript's Anthem for Tonight before I must rest my weary and troubled head.
I'm laptopless at the moment, so I don't can't really make a cast-iron commitment, but I'll register a preliminary interest in taking part. Lake Simply was really enjoyable, and with a good batch of people these games can be terrific. I'm not nominating myself for 'running it' duties, though - don't know if I'm up to that!
Anyone who's considering taking part and hasn't done on of these before, particularly relative newcomers: I wholeheartedly recommend it. They're great fun and good practice. Although will it work without Michael's steady hand on the rudder? We'll see...
So no one is interested in leading this thing? You can still play if you lead it. All that you basically need to do is keep the game going by reminding people of their turns and then moving on if they miss them.

I would, but honestly, my memory is for shit. I'd forget to mention when it's people's turns.
Mr Blonde, though I'm perfectly certain you could host, I would have to say that the host would have needed to have played the game before.
And there have been plenty who have played the game before and it's hardly any extra time if you're playing already. You don't even have to mark up a map for this one because it's only a plane - all anyone needs is a map of the plane.
All you have to do is keep track of the turns (especially kill turns) and make sure that everyone gets an email when they are up. Easy Peasy.
It's kind of sad to think that I'm the only one that is willing to lead these games. I can only do a few activities at a time and I'm very tapped out on time at the moment. Does that mean that the fun has to stop until I can find the time to lead one of these games again? Or will someone carry on the tradition? Where's your SS spirit?!
If you guys do want to play (and I only say this because I'm interested in watching a game unfold) I can set this up so that you babysit yourselves, which would mean no emails or decisions about the order from me, where maybe the current player would name the next player from a list and the group would be in charge of making sure the next player goes. Let me know and I'll set that up. Otherwise, you'll all just have to wait six months.

I'll go with whatever. I just want to play. I need something to do besides writing, anyway.

If no one wants to volunteer to help fly the plane, I will do so; however:
I've just started on a heavy duty antibiotic for a chronic sinus infection that has caused me grief for too long now and I'm not happy with the side-effects-- they scare me actually, and so I'm not completely confident how it's going to go, how I'm going to feel. I want to force myself to take it as long as I can though. 6 weeks is prescribed.
Anyways, I'll just say yes, for now in helping, but I won't make guarantees. If someone else wants to work with me on this, then it's probably best.
I haven't played killer. Haven't read the rules, but I've been on enough planes this year that's for sure.
Ok. I had a chat with Sandra and she agreed to take care of the management aspect but she can't play because she's way too occupied thinking about Thief. So, the game is on and she needs eight people to fill the roster. If you want to play then include a short character bio in this thread.
Remember these characters are supposed to be killers, though sly ones like the first killer game. Rules will be similar to the first killer game, except there will be three turns of which one will be a kill. Who will follow Dreamscale and TommyP as the next Master Killer?
David Carlisle (Mr. Blonde) ( 38 ) is a hitman and is one of the best at getting a kill done so he commands high prices for hits. However, he only uses the money to improve his armory and visit hockey games. He has a temper problem, but he can control it, most of the time. To calm himself, he lights up his Zippo lighter repeatedly, despite not being a smoker. Throughout his life, he has been able to keep his "job" a secret from his son, Vincent (16), who is travelling with him on the flight.
David is 6'2", 217 lbs., has short blonde hair., green eyes., and a stubble goatee. He has a medium build and wears a white T-shirt under black (unzipped) sweatshirt, brown carpenter pants, white basketball shoes and a backwards hockey team hat.

Fixed. =)
EDIT MC: Excellent! Now to get 7 more
Mr. Blonde, now you have me curious. What hockey team hat does David wear?
I think you've already drawn "the primary" of a very interesting character. It will be interesting to watch as he becomes more revealed according to his circumstances.
I figured it didn't matter becuase most didn't care because it seems like most don't like hockey in the U.S. (until it occurred to me that this is more an international website) but I had in mind a 1994 L.A. Kings hat. The one with the black and silver over the Chevrolet-like logo.

Oh yes, it matters. It matters a great deal because your character matters and he will eventually be inclined to make it known that it matters, too.
It doesn't matter what "most don't like". It matters what means something to your character.
For instance, if your character's father brought him up, taking him to L.A. Kings' games, and to his father, (if he were now dead) the game of hockey and indeed the L.A. Kings were an almost sacred affair, any affront to The Kings, might be taken very seriously by David. Especially if it were used as a low blow, actually insulting the memory of his father.
Or what if he wears the hat because he killed an L.A. Kings fan. Maybe he has something against them? For a particular reason?
Any number of reasons could exist, but there's always a reason, even if it isn't plain.
Even though it seems like you've only written a short character bio, you've already written tons.
If you want the Killer games to become a tradition here you're going to have to let other people lead them besides me. While I might step in to lead a game here or there, I'm on a different track at the moment and it's unlikely that I will have to time to lead a game often. So if you want them to continue you have to take that first step and trust someone else to lead them.
We need seven more people to start this game. Who's up for continuing a tradition?
Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everyone would rather see the Killer games die.
Not seeing much happening here. I know you guys want to play this because I know you know it's a fun thing to do. So create a character and sign up. You know you want to.
A. People are busy - even though they know this doesn't take a lot of their time. B. People are afraid of the speed of turns - but they forget or don't know that this game is very flexible. C. People are afraid they won't be able to write as well as other people playing - but they forget this is an exercise as well as a game - they can learn from it. It's has always had widely divergent skill levels. D. People are afraid they might have to miss a turn or might have something come up - see B. E. People don't want to play unless I lead - not trying to be egotistical here but I suspect this as a reason and people should just get over it. They can't expect this game to continue as a tradition here and always have me lead it.
I think Sandra will do a great job leading this, she is certainly flexible and fair enough. She'll probably be a bit shy in the beginning while she figuring out how to lead it but I think she'll come into her own soon enough. Will it be the same as when I lead it? No, probably not, but variety is a good thing.
So those of you in the borderlands on the borderline, create a character and sign up. You can think of it as doing your part to continue a tradition. Or if you prefer to be non-traditional about it then I think that could be arranged too. So you have no excuse, just do it (Ok, I took that from a Nike commercial but you get the drift).
It has nothing to do with Sandra running it. I would even have offered to give running it a try, but I seriously don't think I will have the time. I have also taken part in two of these so I'm not going to feel guilty about not being part this time.
I would suggest to all others here though to give it a try. Specially all you new members.

No one should feel guilty. Time is probably the biggest factor for everyone. My reasoning for trying to keep this running (although I won't be playing) is to keep everyone who might be falling into writing lapses-- to keep them writing.
These games keep you active and working. You might sit down feeling like you have nothing and then find out just how much you have after all.
I think maybe people need to know a schedule for when this will happen.
If there are enough people signed up by the Ides of March, which is an auspicious time, it can be started and it would run through April and probably be done by the time May flowers.
And for those of you who haven't the foggiest idea what I'm talking about:
March 15th start End around the first week in May Of which you're committing to about 8-16 hours of time. Enough to write three 5 page scenes.
So get your characters in now and we can start right away.

We're in difficult times. Some of you are preparing for exams even now. Some have heavy duty work and family commitments. Where the hell are we to find the time?
Well, the good news is it's possible, but time isn't always the #1 factor, (although the second factor might be considered #1A as far as reasons go for stalling on a personal commitment to "write more, write faster, write better").
The 1A factor might be simply not having enough energy left after everything else is taken care of. This is an issue that we can't avoid and every day is a little bit different in that regard, but let's pretend we're all loaded with vitality every single waking moment. Zzzzzzz. OH! sorry! I must have drifted off.
Seriously, if we can somehow just say that we're going to try and pull off something here, and God only knows what it might be, but if we can try and pull something off and have some fun in the meantime, don't you think that would be amazingly fantasticulously grandacular!?
It would! So...
If you even think, in the smallest tiny cavity of your tiniest neurotransmitters, that you might like to go for the gusto, let it all hang out and have some fun...
Then take off and make it happen. Write yourself an interesting character and enjoy yourself without feeling that "no you can't". Yes, you can!
I gotta go now and tend to the Captain. I think he's having a bit of a nervous breakdown or something. But don't worry. He always comes around after a couple placebos and a pitcher or two of beer. I'll fix him up pronto. Your lives are safe in his hands. Don't worry.
You have 7 days. One more week to come up with the characters or the game gets it. And don't try to bring the police into this. If I catch drift of any coppers sniffing around then BANG! Got it!
Michael's given a week's worth of time to get your character bios done on this.
I can't think of anything better than this for your personal writing development. If you're sitting on the fence right now, just know that in life, these kinds of opportunities are hard to come by.
Just think, all of these people dedicating their time for a purpose and they have something in common with you. They love to write about life.
What do you have to lose? This is free. Really. All you have is time. Time that likely as not, you think you don't have, but if you start searching in the corners, you'll probably find some-- somewhere, who knows where, but somewhere... Think of all the time you might spend on Facebook and "whatnot". "Whatnot" is dangerous, so be careful.
Come and give it a shot, my friends. And then be the one to tell the tale of how you blazed a trail for yourself and maybe even a few others as well.
Ha, just found this thread...didn't have a clue it was here.
You know I always like to take part in these, but I'm going to be moving up to Seattle...most likely next week, and I can't get started in this until I am all moved, which wouldn't be until the end of March.

Sorry guys...
Well, I would be happy to see the deadline extended for getting characters together. Especially if people are having difficulty for whatever reason. The end of March isn't that far off really. Look how fast time goes. None of us can keep up with it. And isn't The Game of Life always "hurry up and wait"?
Let's all try and be patient and see how many people are interested, but need a bit more time to get organized.
Sometimes all we need is interest and you've got it Jeff; so hopefully you can be a part of this.
Up to you Sandra. If you want to extend the deadline to the end of March - go for it. But people should get their characters in because there's stuff to prepare before the game begins.

If we consider Jeff as "maybe game" for after he moves, then that means we have three people and only need five more excited whirlwinds.
I'd like to request that people come forward with their character bios in the next week. Just sit yourself down and write like a maniac for a half an hour. You can do that. Pretend you'll die if you don't or something like that.
If we don't actually get underway until April, you've got the Easter weekend to look forward to and you might have someone invite you to dinner and you can get some needed R & R and consequently excellent brainstorming power ahead of you.
Like Michael has stated though--
There are details that are involved in the set-up and he's the one dealing with this evil time villain; so please...
If you can manage it and help us out here:
Hammer out your character bio. Post it here. And be proud that you're jumping on board.
I'm packing for my journey to Seattle. Movers come tomorrow, and I leave Wednesday or Thursday morning. I will lose my internet tomorrow, most likely. It is safe to say I am out unless this waits until April.

Sorry.
If we can get some other interested people, then I know you are able to fire something out quickly and participate. And I would be happy to leave your character be a mystery character that we add later on. How that would work, I'm not sure, but I'm a believer that nothing is impossible.
Take it as easy as you possibly can. I know moving can be stressful, but I think you're going to love Seattle. It's on the coast, and heck, you can drive up to Whistler mountain and go skiing!
I think that this Friday though is enough. If no interest arises by then, we'll have to say that Killer is dead for now.
True words have never been more spoken. And from the look of things, this plane isn't going to take off soon. I hate collaborating. I don't do it. Why? I have my own unique style of writing but more importantly, I don't play well with others.
But having said all this... (only if I'm needed) I'm going to cheat. I'll use my central character for my script "The IceWoman Chronicles."
YOURI NUKIMURA (30s) - our world knows her only as, "The IceWoman." A deadly combination of lethal and sexiness. Hitwoman, assassin, international terrorist. A "rogue," member of JSP. The Japanese Secret Police. The only rules she abides by, Sun Tzu, "The Art Of War."
When she's not out killing, she practices Zen religiously. She has no family and only one friend, a sidekick and their relationship is usually turbulent... so she's "not afraid to fly." She takes many lover's and doesn't discriminate either. And yet, she has only ever truly loved one in her life.
At this moment, she's enroute to carry out a hit and it's personal. Guess what? I just checked her boarding pass and her connecting flight... just happens to be this one.

That's excellent Ghostwriter! The IceWoman sounds very intriguing! I'm sure that a character like this would be an amazing one to watch.
So we have four people so far, half of what we need. Four more by tomorrow? That might be like winning a lottery.
Anyone interested needs to draw up a character bio by midnight this Friday night (March 19) Pacific time.
Have a lovely evening and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Er. I'm just following Sandra's advice to add a character. I'd like to see a Salvador Dali type fella in a script.
I've writtten one with one in. But it was rubbish. Very.
Wiki stuff on the looney tunes that was Dali is here.
Hmm...
Welcome back RV
Thought you jumped off the face of the earth. So your going to play? Good, did you hear that Sandra? RV wants to play. You can slide right into my spot RV.
Er er, do I have to play? I have no idea what I'm doing and this house won't clean itself, sadly. Even the dog is getting sick of the mess. It's beginning to resemble a brew cabin on a building site round here.
Erm. I really must start reading things properly. Doh
I'm just rewriting Take Care. Avoiding the cleaning you see.
Link if above vid fails. This clip reminds me I must be more careful about all that bad language I seem so fond of. Bless you Mrs. Doyle.
Er. If someone PMs me with a few pointers or maybe I should just read this thread. Er, yeah. That might be a good idea. I'll get back to you, shorty. Sorry, shortly. Ahem.
Right. I'm sicka washing fecking dirty dishes. Had a look through and I guess I'll give it a go. Playing games with Sandra. Hmmm. Quiet at the back. Anybody who uses the word 'stalwart' successfully is okay by me.
Alas, I do have to finish the dishes as there's not a clean one in the house. And I'm not eating out of a tin can. Again.
I shall be back on this thread reading more thoroughly tomorrow day.
Oh dear. Forgot to feed the dog. No wonder he's been looking at me strangely.

Excellent to hear! Not that your place is in a state and you're dog is hungry, but that you will participate if this thing flies.
I'll be excited to read the character bio you draw up. Dali's melting clock is to die for. If it had an 11:11 for the time, it would surpass greatness into the great Gadlut of all lesser gadluts. Yes, I have to admit, I admire his work.
Alas, I will be nudging people on here to write on time and reminding them of their turns and such, but I will not be participating in this one as I'm working with Gary and the others who are hanging on because they like punishment and so, I'm concentrating on Thief.
I need time to get some serious reading done in the script department and also my Kabbalah studies take a lot of my time. Whatcha gonna do?
Anyways, the basic premise of this KILLER script. (Love the sound of that! Just think you could all say to an agent, "I've got a KILLER script! Ya wanna have a read?" and you wouldn't be lying!)
So the basic premise is that everyone dies. Sounds like life!!! ...
Oh, there's one exception... One person survives. Who will that be?
Alright then, if, IF, Ghostwriter22 decides to stay in, (and he's already said he hates collaborations; so his presence here will be considered a miracle.) then we now have five famous players.
Mr. Blonde
Tommyp
Dreamscale
Ghostwriter22
RV
We still need three people to write up a quick bio and post it here by tomorrow midnight Pacific Time.
Most important reminder to everyone who is thinking of adding their personality to this is:
The game is for you to have fun at the same time as challenge yourselves to work together with others who might, and often do have entirely different styles and approaches to their work.
It's meant to be fun and inspirational. And, in the end, as with anything in life, you will get what you put into it. It might not be what you expected, but you're doing something that is very unique from the standpoint of what's been done in the past.
I'm not speaking about the premise itself, or any character even. What I'm referring to is the way that you will write the script. It's spontaneous, but it's not individually spontaneous. It's collectively spontaneous and the fact that you're working with other minds, in different places, in different times, in different moods... It really is an exciting and different form altogether.
Ah. I think GW has got his coat. I shall be dabbling later today. Midnight in the Pacific? Won't it be wet there and get all rusty? I work on GMT. And Amberleaf.
I'll get me scales out and convert to PST. You lot are well behind so I'll be dandy. Timewise at least.

I think I chose Pacific Time because that's what Moira's on (Well, sometimes.) But I'm on Mountain and the whole shebang can be rather confusing since the world keeps turning and revolving and all.
GMT though, it's a lovely seven hours ahead of Pacific and six hours ahead of me and Mountain Time.
Indeed, Vancouver's a very rainy place, but it's often very nice and it never gets too cold, but the dampness often makes it feel very cold. That's why when people hear of our cold -15 and such here in places like Alberta, they shiver, but it's not too bad unless it's windy.
As long as you dress in layers and there's not a lot of wind, the cold isn't too bad.
Back when I lived in Prince George, I remember walking out in -40 when I was pregnant. Maybe it was because I was pregnant, (I always felt really good when I was pregnant ) but I remember it didn't feel so bad.
Like I said, it's the wind and the dampness that do it to people I think.
Generally speaking, I think we're pretty good up to -20 with sunshine and no wind, after that then yes, it can get to be a bit much.
March has been a good month for us though. Very nice!!!
Anyways, back on track...
If you want to add yourself into the mayhem here. And I can promise you mayhem. Te-he Then think up a cool character and post as some of the others have above in this thread.

You're back in full form Rv. The last 24 hours you've been catching up on your post. So apparently, you must have all your house cleaning done. Good. I would ask you to come up with a bio for your character... but I think this flight will be delayed.
Oh, Salvador Dali... I just happen to have a scene with one in a script. Did you know, he was a sadist?
Sandra, it doesn't look good. Maybe you'll might want to delay this until later on.
By the way, the next episode. How long do we have too wait. You know Rv...

I'm not going to delay the writing of a short character bio because I've already delayed the start time for April.
Michael's waited plenty long enough and if people don't have time right now, they just don't and that's the way it is sometimes.
It's up to the people. Power to the people right on! If this flight doesn't take off, it's too bad, but such is life.
"Know Rv". Hmmm, I hope you don't mean in the biblical sense.
Dali was completely doodah. He was painting a beautiful young nude fashion model one day. She looked up to see Dali bare arsed naked heading straight for her and then he. Ahem. Manners makes me let you draw your own conclusions.
He drove around with his dead wife in the car across several international borders for quite some time too. Mind you, he was handy with the palette and paints.
I digest. Sorry, digress. I'll leave it in Sandra's capable then, before I start writing about some looned ex pervy sadistic murderous artist. Hmmm, sounds like fun, that. Ahum, writing it, I mean.
I'm sorry Sandra. Maybe later this spring. Right now I can't commit myself as I never know when I'll be busy and I have to be ready to jump into action 110% whenever my documentary needs it.

You should never feel sorry, Pia. You do too much already!!!
I would have liked to see some of the newer screenwriters show up though because I know this is an activity that will help them a great deal.
It's a tough time though because we're looking at close to the end of a term and tons of exams for some. Just everyday life needs attention and it is a commitment, even if it seems small.
These things can be like a big snowball and as Michael can attest to, characters can come on strong (Logan anyone?) and it's hard to not care. It gets pretty intense.
As a matter of fact, I really have no idea how I'm going work on the rewrite of Thief because I can't get Logan out of my head. He's in solid and I have to pretend he's not there.
So yes, what seems as an innocent little game can get very real and it starts taking over your life.
Sorry I never warned anyone about that. But you have to take the good with the bad and I thought we might pull out three players out of a hat at the last minute.
Keep on keeping on Pia. And don't feel guilty. Ok now actually I think I'm talking to myself as well.
Without meaning to be dickish and seem like I'm stopping people from taking part, is there any way we could make it a 6-er? That way it should be done in a month, which is when the 4WC is gonna kick off...
Just a thought. And not an important one - in theory, even with eight people, this could be done in a month.
EDIT: Oh, and I have an even better title: Flight of the Living Dead.
You know, I genuinely was working on a zombie short when you posted Sixteen Minutes. I've put it on the back-burner for now, until the phase passes. But by then you'll have uploaded your feature and the whole thing'll be off again!
So instead, I polished off the short that's featured in my sig, and should be up any time now. A shameless plug, I know.
It'll be a while before I put my zombie feature. I'm working with some people on a project right now, taking priority over the zombie script.
Since you brought it up, I have a second version of Sixteen Minutes on the boards now. It's curently in pre-production and the director asked for some changes in it.
Of course you can over-saturate, specially when dealing with a bunch of new writers. Even if you like a particular genre (or sub-genre) you can only read so many of them. This happened with slasher-scripts a couple of years back. A lot of fan-fics were posted; most didn't get read.
